Royce Hall Organ Recital Tickets

It was so nice to see a real classical silent movie with really magnificent organ play. I enjoyed the movie as if I were at a theater in 1910s. I also found that this classical movie is never obsoleted.

Once again, a memorable family evening featuring a classic silent movie.

Royce Hall organ and film featuring Steven Ball was an amazing experience on many levels. In addition to describing a bit of the design and mechanics behind the instrument, Steven Ball made the introduction to the film. His masterful performance of the score was so great that as he had originally intended, the audience quickly stopped consciously thinking about it. His music became part of the film experience. Believed to be the first featured length comedy ever, Tillie's Punctured Romance is a wonderful concert of story, talent, and wit. Marie Dressler is truly a comic genius and Chaplin in his pre-tramp days foreshadows "Charlotte" as everyone recognizes him as. Great experience all around. Looking forward to future engagements at Royce Hall.

This show was incredible for me. To see a Charlie Chaplin film, masterfully restored by UCLA, on the big silver screen, with live accompanying organ, was so nostalgic and surreal, I didn't want it to end. To think that my great grandparents were just starting their family at the time "Tilly's Punctured Romance" was released, blew my mind. They very well could have seen this show as I was seeing it 98 years later, and only 96 years before they had my grandfather who passed away in 2010. I loved every minute of this time-capsuled experience.

A fantastic night and location. The film was as funny, if not funnier, than anything made today. Great audience of all ages. Great live organ playing.

My husband and I really enjoyed watching a silent film with organ accompaniment at Royce Hall. It was very cool to experience a feature length silent film with a live audience, and live music. What a taste of history! Also great to see so many kids there.

Stephen Ball is terrific! The movie was wonderful. The film restoration was first class - How terrific to keep these priceless classics alive. What an extraordinary movie from a young Charles Chaplin.

Amazing!! I passed by earlier silent films because I didn't think they were developed or sophisticated enough to be funny, but I was certainly wrong; one of the funniest films I've ever seen in my life! I'm really hoping Ticketmaster and UCLA support more rare silent films as films like these need more exposure. Steven Ball was a genius at the organ, and the experience would not have been the same without his craft: there would have been less expression and emotion felt in the film. I sincerely hope he comes back soon, and will be available to answer questions (as he stated in his introduction) next time.

Definitely a wonderful performance. Royce Hall has one of the best acoustic around in town. However, getting there was problematic. If you live in the east side of LA and trying to get to west side, be sure to spent 2.5 hours driving! I was a student UCLA, so I know the campus well. For those new to the campus, it will be hard to get around and find Royce Hall.
