    Dancing Horses

by dazziemae on 2/10/11Van Andel Arena - Grand Rapids

Loved the show. Loved the history of the Lipizzans. I took my sister, who is not a horse lover and she enjoyed it too. A must see, at least once. Pictures were allowed and encouraged, flash and all. Got great photos.

    Stunning performance

by sgarzaku on 2/9/11Van Andel Arena - Grand Rapids

Not only was the performance well done, but part of the time was spent teaching you about the technique. For someone who has never been big into horses, this was very helpful and interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Lipizzaner beauty and strength on display

by Anonymous on 2/9/11Van Andel Arena - Grand Rapids

This show was both entertaining and educational. I enjoyed hearing the history of the Lipizzaner Stallions as much as watching all the amazing manuevers they perform. It's great to see the bond between horse and rider both during the musical numbers and while the horses were being groomed. You could see the personality of the horse at times, like when Elvis seemed too humble to want to take a bow for a job well done!

    Simply Amazing

by Przmysl on 2/9/11Van Andel Arena - Grand Rapids

Words cannot express the amazement that I felt when watching this great performance. The execution was flawless for both horse and rider. The animals were powerful in stature and gentle in nature. The narration was interesting and greatly appreciated. It certainly added to the pleasure of the overall performance. Pardon me if I use the words amazing and awesome, but these words, however inadequate, best describe the emotional high that I experienced during the entire performance. As my guests, I brought two friends who did not have any horsemanship experience and they were just overwhelmed at what they saw. The performance exceeded all our expectations and has given us memories that will last a lifetime. My caution to you is to pace your applause or your hands will be sore for days afterwords and your voice will be strained from cheering. Rate this one A+ for all generations and all interest levels.

    Lipizzaners beautiful, show poor

by badone on 2/8/11Van Andel Arena - Grand Rapids

Beautiful stallions, wonderful riders' costumes. But that was the only constant entertainment in the Royal Lipizzaner Stallion show. The narrator drones on throughout the show, with the history of the stallions, how they're trained, etc. This is normally very interesting, but there was more talk than show. The narrator's joke about a quiz fell in line with the evening's "lesson". The horses' talents were held back, as they were walked out, one by one, to demonstrate a walk, canter and trot, then walked back. Then again with an added little kick and back. Then demonstrating the right or left or front or back leg change, while trotting in a circle. This was most of the show. The end was a little more entertaining, with all eight horses trotting in circles, forming a pinwheel, back in a circle...though synched precision was not part of the choreography. Too boring for kids, unless they've never seen a real live horse.

    OK, but not exciting

We took our 5 granddaughters. One fell asleep. 3 said they could ride that good and they have only been to horse camp one week at the YMCA.

Still thinking of Lipizzaner Stallions Perforance

by asdfggg on 2/8/11Van Andel Arena - Grand Rapids

First time seeing these magnificent stallions. Our seats were great for seeing them close up and realizing just how big these animals are. Liked the various changes of uniform hats & jackets, added to the variety of each number in the show. Was surprised to see so many female riders, not that they were in any way lacking in their skills of horsemanship--just you hear that Kings & Generals used these wonderful, very special horses in war and then you see them all being ridden by females. (except one male rider). The all black stallion was a wonderful example of horse & rider as one, and he really looked like he was dancing to the beat of the whole musical number. It added a nice bit of "spice" to the show. We did find it a little strange that they had an intermission 1 hr into the show, and then after the fifteen minute break there was one 1/2 hr. number and that was the end. Not too balanced as to when the break came. Over all we loved it, and were very glad we came.
