Sad and disappointing
by Billy Lou on 1/16/23Sony Hall - New YorkI have been to Sony Hall several times with generally disappointing experiences. The past three times my wife and I sat in an elevated table for three that we loved. This time we were not able to sit there as it was "reserved". No-one ended up sitting there until after the show began. When we arrived I asked the doorman if we could go down and his response was an unnecessarily terse and disgruntled resounding "NO!" Then we were shown to a VIP table by an uncomfortable young woman who did not know what to say when we did not want to sit so close. Our waiter didn't seem to accept the fact that my soda was flat though he did return with an equally flat glass of soda. He took our order and after the show began, about an hour and a half later I had to go find him to ask for the check. The food was ok but when he brought the check there was a tip included and the option to add more. I would have gone for a total of 10%. We were not asked if we wanted desert. As far as the show goes, it was sad. I have loved listening to Ronnie Earl over the years but his physical condition has deteriorated and his performance was impressive given his condition but nevertheless disappointing. We left early. We had the same experience with Sergio Mendez and Bebel Gilberto, lackluster performances of formerly great musicians. I don't think we will jump to return to Sony Hall. Sorry to be the bearer of a negative review. The gentleman in the men's room was really nice. Happy New Year.
