About

Roch Voisine in Concert

Since the late 1980s, Roch Voisine has been a rock in the world of Francophone pop — a redoubtable hitmaker blessed with a rich, velvet-smooth voice and matinee-idol good looks. You could say the New Brunswick native was born to be a star — his first-ever singing gig was reportedly before 50,000 people at a Canada Day festival in Montreal in 1986.

After building his profile by starring in the popular prime-time hockey drama Lance et compte, Voisine released his debut album, Hélène, in 1989. Thanks to singles like the urgent, synth-pumped "Avant de partir" and the tender, lighter-waving acoustic title track "Hélène," not only was Voisine established as a star in Quebec (to the tune of 3 million albums sold), but across Europe as well.

However, the English chorus he dropped into "Hélène" betrayed a desire to reach audiences beyond Francophones. Voisine's 1990 follow-up, Double, was a double-album divided evenly between French and English songs, and a harbinger of a discography that alternates between the two languages.

Following a massively successful European tour (which coincided with the unveiling of his wax statue at Paris' Musée Grévin), Voisine released I'll Always Be There, a 1993 collaboration with adult-contemporary architect David Foster, while 1996's Kissing Rain saw him team up with soft-rock maestro Richard Marx.

On top of racking up several gold and platinum discs and numerous honors over the years (including two Juno Awards and an induction into the Order of Canada), Voisine has also been an active supporter of various humanitarian causes, joining UNICEF's mission in Africa and working with charities for AIDS relief.

In 2008, he entered an intriguing new phase of his career with his Americana project, a three-album series recorded in Nashville and California that saw him cover songs by the likes of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Simon & Garfunkel. His 2017 release, Devant Nous, finds Voisine back in his natural element, crooning soulful adult-contemporary Franco-pop with modern production touches.

What a show, we really enjoyed our Lady's night . Roch Voisine still has a great voice and the way he and his crew presented the songs was awesome. Thank you for a special night

    Surpassed expectations!

by Deesse on 4/12/22Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy - GATINEAU

Great music, soothing voice, fun stories...the only thing that would have made it better is if it was longer (and maybe English subtitles 😉). Time flies when you are having fun!

    Amazing as always

by Deborah on 4/12/22Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy - GATINEAU

I've seen Roch over 20 times now and I have never been disappointed. This time was no different. He put on a fabulous show, his voice was beautiful and spot on, his band was fantastic, I LOVED the Americana songs and the way he did them...my husband and I enjoyed every second. I was concerned that since the tour had been changed to 'light' that it wouldn't be as good or spectacular but it was just amazing from beginning to end. We bought these tickets in 2019 and, because of Covid, waited three years to finally see this show. It was well worth the wait and my main disappointment was that I hadn't purchased tickets for both the nights he was here. Loved every second! I will see Roch every time he plays here forever. Life long fan.

    Musicians good...sound quality horrible.

    by C. R. on 4/11/22Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy - GATINEAU

Roch Voisine and his musicians were great. I liked their selection of songs, too. However the sound quality was absolutely horrible. The volume of the different instruments were not at properly balanced levels. The bass was excruciatingly loud. The best sound was when Roch sang with the just the guitar and piano. The on-stage lights were sometimes too bright, shining out at the audience. I saw several people shielding their eyes whenever those lights came on. If this is the fault of the venue then I will never attend the Casino Lac-Leamy Theatre again.

    A class act!

by Roxanne on 4/11/22Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy - GATINEAU

Can’t go wrong with Roch Voisine! His voice is classic and brings back so many memories of my childhood. Loved his Americana spin on classic songs. Grind of wished he did play Helene and I’ll always be there for the fan girl in me at the encore but I’ll survive haha

    Roch was just Ok!

by Honestly80 on 12/6/14Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy - GATINEAU

He opens with an older Arcadian female singer who sang Christmas songs and quite frankly was annoying for 30 minutes. Then a 15 minute break. 45 minutes into the concert start time Roch takes the stage. He sings for 1.5 hrs. His voice is incredible and he speaks some to the crowds. The fact you couldn't take pictures or video with annoying security guards watching your every move - however the security guards were taking video and pictures. I went to Sarah McLsughlin weeks earlier at NAC and you could do anything you wanted - video - pics and she rocked. The average age at this concert in Hull Casino for Roch was 65-70. Felt like is was in an old age home......Roch's voice does not disappoint but the overall concert - audience and security measures sucked! Once was enough....... Never again .....
