About

This all-time classic opera tells the passionate tale of the father, the virgin, the lover and the curse. Rigoletto is a court jester, working for the Duke of Mantua. His job is to keep his master laughing and to divert attention from the Duke's many sins.  It is until, however, the Duke becomes interested in a young maid and unbeknownst to the Duke it is Rigoletto's daughter.   Rigoletto turns from spiteful joker into a protective and desperate father.
Rigoletto takes its inspiration from Federico Fellini's classic La Dolce Vita.
One of Australia's great Verdians, Michael Lewis, performs as the tragic clown Rigoletto, while Rosario La Spina and Emma Matthews join him in this powerful production.

My husband and I both enjoyed this opera. The venue, acting, singing, sets and orchestra were all amazing. Our seats were great, parking was convenient. We had a great evening.

The production was amazing, except for technical difficulties with the set and sub-titles.

    Great show despite complications

    by Jdxhungujn on 10/24/17F. M. Kirby Center - Wilkes-Barre

Great performances by the cast! The translation board above the stage didn’t work at all during the first act, and intermittently after that, more not working than working. A near calamity involving the 20’ scene happened at the end of act 2. Neith of these affected the high level performance of the cast.

The translation (Italian to English) had a few problems, including the timing (not always aligned with what was being sung) and the accuracy of the translation. Some of the mistakes induced laughter from the audience. Otherwise, the production was excellent.

The acting and voices were superb. Should have a bigger orchestra.

    A wonderful evening

Performance Plus was most worthwhile, giving us insight into the opera and its music! All in all, the singing was superb; the acting was excellent; and the costumes and sets were most appropriate. The only negative was the super-titles, which were frequently out of sync.

Fabulous cast...all operatic stars, well-balanced, evenly matched, well acted. A memorable evening. Orchestra, sets, costumes, lighting--no flaws.

This was my first Opera. I have waited my entire life to go and this was worth the wait. Even thou the show were sung in Italian it was not hard to follow. The performances became personal and the voices were just amazing! It was an afternoon that will never be forgotten. Thank you!

    Wonderful

by Jalilah on 5/19/13Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric - Baltimore

I must say that this one was best opera. Rigoletto had the excitement and romance that touched my heart. The close captions were easy to read so I could focus on the opera itself. This is a must see!!
