This all-time classic opera tells the passionate tale of the father, the virgin, the lover and the curse. Rigoletto is a court jester, working for the Duke of Mantua. His job is to keep his master laughing and to divert attention from the Duke's many sins. It is until, however, the Duke becomes interested in a young maid and unbeknownst to the Duke it is Rigoletto's daughter. Rigoletto turns from spiteful joker into a protective and desperate father. Rigoletto takes its inspiration from Federico Fellini's classic La Dolce Vita. One of Australia's great Verdians, Michael Lewis, performs as the tragic clown Rigoletto, while Rosario La Spina and Emma Matthews join him in this powerful production.
