Acts were good; the Prudential Center not so good!

    by Senex413 on 6/12/15Prudential Center - Newark

Over all, the acts all met or exceeded expectations: the performers all put on good acts; their backup singers and musicians all did a good job, but . . . the Pru Ctr does not really lend itself to concerts (and especially so concerts of this nature). From the very, very poor stage lighting to the terrible, terrible acoustics that are at play here, having to sit through this performance was "uncomfortable," at best, and "painful" at worst.. Add to this the fact that many of the acts stood facing that part of the arena where there were, for the most part, just row upon row of empty seats, it meant that the rest of us just got to see the backs of their necks #and those other areas that lurk back that way#. More than once you could hear a "Hey! Tell them to turn around!" coming from the audience; sometimes it got results; sometimes it didn't. My suggestion is that, next year #and in the years following# the Nader group takes this show to a different venue. Additionally, this is a "Doo Wop Show," right? With that being the case #as some other reviewer has already pointed out# what in the heck was Mary Wilson #late of "The Supremes"# doing here? Noting that she sang sounded anything at all like a Doo Wop number!

    Great acts! Production needs work.

by azpro on 6/9/15Prudential Center - Newark

We came to see the many performers and we were NOT disappointed. It is amazing that after all these years their voices and the exuberance has not dwindled. The harmonies were right on and if we closed our eyes, we were transported back to a bygone era. To hear the Duprees, Mel Carter, Mary Wilson, the Harptones and all the other acts one more time was a memory I will hang on to for a long time. There were some issues regarding the production of the concert. The new venue seemed to catch the team off-guard. The lighting was a major problem and the sound cut out sometimes [though I suspect it might have been the singers not holding the mic close enough]. The main complaint was perhaps that the singers had their backs to many of the audience as the stage was set up to be "in the round". Overall, I would go back again, if only to hear the wonderful talent offered. I appreciate the opportunity to see these acts whenever possible.

    Doo Wop June 6 show

by HYWOOD on 6/9/15Prudential Center - Newark

Overall it was a great show, the Heartbeats were great, Willie Winfield and the Harptones were fabulous, Sonny Turner, Mel Carter all wonderful, the only one that was a problem was Mary Wilson who seemed a bit out in outer space.

    A little disappointed

by Lujenn on 6/9/15Prudential Center - Newark

This is the second show we saw two years in a row. Our disappoint came at the ending of both shows. Last year was Jay and the Americans, who had no start in Doo Wop this year was Mary Wilson who belongs to Motown and not to Doo Wop either. Disappointed in both shows and we contemplate attending again. The announcer who explained herself to have the best job didn't really do her homework on these shows! Nor was she born when Doo Wop was born.

Enjoyed all phases of the concert. The Platter was exceptional as were the Duprees. Hope Freddy Paris of the Five Satin health is improving.

    What Great Memories!

by RoseBriar on 6/9/15Prudential Center - Newark

The performers were wonderful! The songs brought back such fond memories of being down the Jersey shore. Tommy Mara and The Crests were terrific. Mary Wilson was amazing! She's 71 and strutted her stuff effortlessly. I would definitely see this again. Age has blessed their voices. What a fun, fun evening!

Richard Nader's Doo Wop show was wonderful!

by JerseyGirl2011 on 6/7/13IZOD Center - East Rutherford

Loved this show-- The Tokens, The Duprees and all the groups amazed with their voices, their showmanship, loved how they walked around in a circle so that we could see them no matter where we sat. For men in their 70s(?) they sang beautiful songs it was a very nostalgic evening.
