About

Lewis has taken his lifelong therapy fodder and carved it into a commanding, compelling art form. A NY Post article noted; "Richard Lewis built the strongest stand-up comedy career on a blazing trail of neuroses since Woody Allen." Comedy Central has recognized Mr. Lewis as one of the top 50 stand-up comedians of all time and he was charted on GQ Magazine's list of the '20th Century's Most Influential Humorists'.

SAG nominated Lewis for his work in the ensemble category for his recurring guest star role, playing true-to-life as one of Larry David's closest friends in "Curb Your Enthusiasm," the Seinfeld co-creator's hit HBO series. The show has garnered many awards to include over six Emmy nominations and high praise.

With scores of other guest acting appearances in TV series and films he tries to be as diverse as possible in his choices from appearing on such shows as "2 1/2 Men" and an arc in the new series, 'Til Death" starring Emmy Award winning Brad Garrett . He's been featured in the season finale of A&E's "The Cleaner," portraying a junkie with his life very much on the line. Other guest starring stints have included "The Dead Zone," "Alias," and "Seventh Heaven." He mixes it up between heaven and hell so to speak. Yet, most close to his heart was his four year run in ABC's critically acclaimed series "Anything But Love," co-starring with Jamie Lee Curtis, "Anything but Love", now out on DVD with Volume One of the four year situation comedy. Late night TV viewers and media junkies in general are familiar with his frequent guest appearances. He may hold title to having the most late night appearances, chalking up well over 100 appearances with Dave, Jay, Conan, Jon, Stern, Ferguson and Maher.

In December of 1989, Lewis achieved a very personal goal...he performed at Carnegie Hall to a standing room only audience. To close, in his own words--"I go on a long tour and make people happy that they're not me and go home."

Richard Lewis is simply one of the GOATs

by PiGpEn333 on 12/6/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

For me Cobb's is a 5 star because of how close you can get to the act, feels much more connected. Richard Lewis is always a killer, and on this night did not disappoint. Shot from the hip and really just told it like it is for his whole set, exactly what I bought the tickets hoping to see.

    The Richard of Yore

by CarenT on 12/4/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Many fans know Richard Lewis from Curb Your Enthusiasm. I am old enough to remember him from the Johnny Carson days. Though Richards persona is always the same, most of his act reminded me of those older days. Enjoyed it so much that we were tempted to go again the next night.

    Lewis: Scatterbrain or Scattelogical Genius?

by DrBwayNO on 12/4/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

The show was fine. Underwhelming, but fine. The opening acts were tolerable, but not what we would consider "worthy" of opening for Richard Lewis. I mean, Richard Lewis has been a comedy icon for decades, and to have a comedian talk about being a French woman for 20 minutes, and a comedian of advanced years talk about his relationships for a while, was just not funny. We supposed she was there for diversity and the other guy was picked because he was older. But we were there for Richard Lewis. We went because we liked his comedy, we actually watched his show with Jamie Lee Curtis in the late 80's and early 90's, we saw him at Cobb's years ago, and we love his performance on Curb Your Enthusiasm. We were ready for a good time. What we got was a guy that complained about his age, his burst blood vessel in his eye, and seemingly had no set material. He even said he knew this set was a bit "scattelogical", but he did not care. He got us to laugh a bit, but because the setup comedians were not funny, the need for him to be on point was there. We know he is 70 and doesn't give a f_ _ _, because he said it so many times. Bottom line, is maybe we set our expectations to high. If we had gone in thinking he was an over the hill hack trying to recapture some magic from the 80's, maybe it would have been better. Oh well.

    Standing ovation!

by MarkSFO on 12/3/17Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Either you get Lewis' humor or you don't. That said, he can have off nights, or even off years. I'm not a fanboy and I saw him bomb about 10 years ago. But with his career in high gear again thanks to his "Curb" success he is firing right again. Saw him Saturday (12/2/17) at Cobb's in San Francisco. The large room was packed and he killed it. You hang on every word, wondering what will come next. He can improvise too..."I thought it was Jack Ruby' kid" when an employee suddenly appeared onstage to give him a diet Coke. He earned a rare standing ovation as he left the stage. The man is a legend, don't miss him!

    It was just sad...not funny

by MrDisappointedOndateNight on 1/1/16Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Lewis started off with his typical delivery and spaciness, but it quickly went to a planet far, far away. To the point where it stopped making any sense. It was just sad that he isn't able to deliver anymore. This was the first comedy show I'd been at where I saw so many people leave. People started leaving halfway through. We stuck it out almost to the end. We would have left earlier, but the waitress who was holding onto our credit card and taking her sweet time returning it to us. It was truly a disappointment (a waste of our time, a waste of our money, and sad to see).

Richard Lewis does not deliver. His so-called jokes are not funny. Overall his performance is pathetic.

Richard Lewis Delivers with Laughs Galore

by YNNUF on 11/10/15The Space At Westbury - Westbury

Richard Lewis was very funny with current material and proven bits. His opening act was another comic who was excellent as well.

    Horrible Show!

by Disappointedv415 on 12/18/12Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

The whole show was a disaster! It was terrible. The openers were awful. I was hoping the main act would be at least decent, but Richard Lewis was worst than the amateurs! Wasted my money on this! Even a two drink minimum could not get me to laugh at his "jokes". Horrible and worst comedy show I ever went to! It wasn't even comedy, it was an hour long rant about himself. Awful. Never again.

    Richard Lewis early show.

by MOVERS6969 on 12/17/12Cobb's Comedy Club - San Francisco

Richard Lewis was GREAT. I have always loved him on TV talk shows and then most recently on Curb. He did not disappoint. Thank you for a wonderful evening. But,that lady that came first...ouch. That was painful. Too hear a woman of that age tell blue humour? Painful. The next act was just ok. A 5 out of 10.
