Richard III - A Bloody Good Time!

by HoratioW on 8/9/09Ewing Manor - Normal

My first time seeing this play and I enjoyed it! I had just read the play in preparation to seeing the performance. As nearly always, the staging and characterizations were far different from my imagination in the reading. Amused and intrigued are my responses to seeing how it is performed and staged. The actors and actresses did the play justice in my view. Good intensity in the dramatic scenes. The spit was flying and that is always a good sign in Shakespeare written plays. The performance was the last one of this play for the season, and it was full of enthusiastic gusto. Hurrah for all involved!

    Richard lll

Outstanding! I wasn't ready for it to end. Shakespeare reaches across the generations and continues to expose evil doers and their tactics. I saw many similiarities in todays culture so I believe Shakespeare would have been proud of the productions as well.

Richard III - one bad guy

by TTIndy on 8/7/09Ewing Manor - Normal

This was a great event! The talent is amazing. It was the longest play i have seen at this festival. The length of time in the hard seat was the only downfall. The events at Ewing Manor are far more than just the play. The grounds, the preshows, the picnic area...topped off with a great play...makes for a memorable evening.

    RICHARD III

by HUFFMASU on 8/6/09Ewing Manor - Normal

I have attended many performances of Richard III, and really enjoyed this one the most. I believe the lead actor did an excellent job of portraying the villany of Richard while infusing some humor along the way. I brought my teenage grandson, who enjoyed the performance very much. Nicely done.

What an excellent production of Richard III. Strong cast across the board! Effective staging! Great delivery of those poetic words. I am so glad that we made time to see this play!

    Richard III was wonderful!

I applaud the Illinois Shakespeare Festival for doing Richard III even though it may not have the general popularity of the comedies. This performance used well chosen scenes and I liked the focus on the women's role.
