About

Rhys Darby first gained attention in the United States as Murray in HBO's ‘Flight of the Conchords'. This was not a new role for him, having first appeared in the same role on the BBC radio show of the same name. An ex-soldier in the New Zealand Army and a veteran of fifteen years as a stand-up comedian, Darby made his feature film debut in ‘Yes Man' with Jim Carrey. He then went on to feature as one of the DJs in Richard Curtis' forthcoming film, ‘Pirate Radio'. He has since completed two lead roles in romantic comedies, ‘Coming and Going' opposite Sasha Alexander (NCIS) and NZ Film ‘Lovebirds' opposite Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins.

Darby recently appeared on the CBS television show ‘How To Be A Gentleman' with Kevin Dillon, Dave Foley, David Hornsby, and Mary Lynn Rajskub.

Darby has appeared in several comedic ad campaigns for Nike, Hewlett Packard and 2 Degrees Mobile.

Darby is never far from his standup roots. His standup has been described as a sensational blend of sound effects, characterizations and askew observations. His career has taken him from his homeland of New Zealand, to the U.K. and beyond. He has performed his unique brand of humour in places as far flung as Iceland to the Falkland Islands, and in festivals from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to Montreal's Just for Laughs. His first standup DVD, Rhys Darby: Imagine that! Was shot in Los Angeles in 2008. His second DVD, It's Rhys Darby Night!  Recorded in his home town of Auckland, New Zealand is due for release this Christmas.

Darby lives between Auckland, New Zealand and Los Angeles with his wife and two young sons.

Wilbur during the summer isn't all that comfortable

by Aido on 7/12/22The Wilbur - Boston

An enjoyable performance from Rhys, the second half definitely better than the first half as it had some newer material. But the Wilbur... man... so hot and stuffy during summer, arrangement of seats not leaving a lot of room. Staff are kind and understanding though.

    Amazing Rhys Darby delivers

by VladS on 7/12/22The Wilbur - Boston

This was my second Rhys Darby show, first after about 15 years. Rhys is a fantastic performer and a great comedic mind. My daughter has been a fan of his for a decade and we went to see this show for her birthday. It was fantastic!!

Perfect night in the cutest little town.

by VintageAerith on 7/3/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

I had the opportunity to see Rhys Darby perform (all the way from LA...and New Zealand!) at the Vogel. It was my very first time to the town, and the ambience of the whole place is so friendly. Cute walkable restaurants, super friendly staff at the Vogel, and an absolutely hilarious and heartwarming performance from Rhys. I'm a huge fan of his more recent TV work and the opportunity to see him so quickly afterward, and in such a great venue, was so incredible. Shout out to the ushers and bartenders working that night--they were all so out-of-their-way pleasant. Thanks for the great experience!

    Energetic, joyous, physical standup

by Joey G. on 7/3/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Rhys has always been a fairly clean humored, physical comedian with a joyous charm. I described his style to a friend as a dad and his son playing make believe but they are the same person. His current audience is very Our Flag Means Death based. He shows them love and appreciation without pandering or changing his style for them. The show was pure joy.

    the absolute best

by m on 7/3/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

this was my first time seeing stand up comedy live and i wouldn’t have had it any other way. after watching and loving rhys darby in our flag means death, wrecked, and various other things he’s been in, i had to go see him live when the opportunity arose and i’m so, so thankful i did. rhys brings so much laughter and love and joy to his shows, i don’t even know if he realizes just how much but i think that might be part of his charm. he is ridiculously funny and makes everyone laugh including himself, which is one of my favorite things in a comedian. in conclusion, if you have the chance to see him live: do it without hesitation. i’m going to be so unimpressed now if i ever see another stand up comedian just stand in one place the entire time. rhys darby is a gift to the world and i’m thankful.

It was so nice to relax and have a good laugh with some amazing comedians. Rhys and Steve are absolute joys! I will never forget the welcoming atmosphere of the crowd, the employees, and of course, the comedians. <3

    Amazing

by Autumn on 7/2/22The Vogel at Count Basie Center for the Arts - Red Bank

Rhys Darby was amazing and the seats were arranged a little oddly but I liked how he made masks mandatory.
