    Rapunzel needs life support

by barbaralibra on 12/11/13St. George Theatre - Staten Island

This production was very amaturish. Most actors were long in the tooth for their parts. When Rapunzel was born the man who played her father looked in his sixties and the mother was up there too. Woman who played the wicked step-mother was also old looking and Rapunzel looked twice the age she ws supposed to be. The prince was the only young one and he looked like a baby so it was ridiculous. Props and scenery were minimal and also weary. The so-called beautiful garden was comprised of old plastic flowers. Costumes looked shabby, old and dirty. Not one change of costume for anyone in the 18 year time span. Expected to maybe see a grand wedding at the end but it never happened. The only highlight were the songs. They were kind of cute. My granddaughter got bored. Thank goodness the tickets were only $20 but I would not go again to see this troupe in any production.

    Rapunzel...a Tangled Tale

by pxychk on 11/20/13St. George Theatre - Staten Island

If you're expecting the Disney version of this tale - you're incorrect, but you will not be let down. Though it does say its not "Disney" the "a Tangled Tale" implies it may be a knock off version, similar to that of the popular cartoon Tangled...and that may be confusing. Overall, the show was good & my 3yo daughter enjoyed it very much, and for the price of the tickets for the seats that we had - was worth it ($20/for 2nd row front)

Rapunzel with Plaza Players - A Tangled Mess

by barbaralibra on 11/20/13St. George Theatre - Staten Island

This production was so amateur. I have seen better at my son's high school. Most of the players were a little long in the tooth for their parts, except for the prince who was so young the disparity looked ridiculous. The father of Rapunzel looked about 65 when she was born and the mother didn't look too much younger. The costumes were so old and shabby and there was never even a costume change. The stage setting and props, if you can call them that, were laughable. The "beautiful" flower garden where they got the Rapunzel plant was old, wilted, plastic flowers. Terrible! The only good things I can say is that the evil stepmother had a pretty good voice and so did Rapunzel. Also, I thought the songs were very cute lyrically. Also, the Prince's footman was very funny. He was the best one in the show. As I sat there, I kept thinking it was going to get better but it didn't. I thought there would be a lovely royal wedding, which they intimated at towards the end, however, there was nothing. I was expecting to see Rapunzel come out in a beautiful wedding dress, but as I said they all had the same costumes on for the 18 years of the time passage. My 4 year granddaughter got very bored. I hate giving bad reviews but these Plaza Players should look into revamping their show and maybe get some new blood. The orchestra tickets were only $20 but to me that was too much.
