Jazz legend goes thru the motions

by EGSmith on 10/1/18Hoyt Sherman Place - Des Moines

Ramsey Lewis is a magnificent jazz musician. A legend in his own time. We were very excited to see him and, I will admit, the music was good - when Lewis played. Most of night’s highlights came from his band, though. And it turned out to be an early evening to boot, with no encore. Ergo, my average rating.

Ramsey Lewis and Ann Hampton Calloway were fantast

by 1957Mimi on 10/1/18Hoyt Sherman Place - Des Moines

I grew up listening to my dad's record The In Crowd by Ramsey Lewis. I took my 90 year old father and we both clapped and toe tapped to the music. It was magical. Every high school jazz band should have been there to see and hear the master.

    Amazing Five Star

by Baglady54 on 10/9/17Balboa Theatre - San Diego

I had always wanted to see Ramsey Lewis perform and now i finally got my wish. It was a five star performance at the Balboa Theatre in San Diego. Mr. Ramsey is one of the last iconic jazz pianist around. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to see Ray Charles, and George Duke before they left us. However, I did see Joe Sample before he passed. These are pianist that I considered to be great in what they contributed to the world of music. Fortunately we still have Bob James, Bob Baldwin, David Benoit, Brian Simpson, and Brian Culbertson around. But as far as I am concern, Ramsey is in a class all by himself. Really enjoyed the show and the venue. I hope that I will have another chance to see Mr. Ramsey tickle the ivory again soon. He played all the hits of the 1970's to present that I have enjoyed listening too. May God Bless you Mr. Ramsey and give you continued health and strength to please your audiences.

    Ramsey's still in the groove!

by dtms2y on 10/8/17Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Ramsey Lewis is still a remarkable talent! We have been fans of his for many many years, and we were delighted to hear that he would make an appearance here in San Diego. He did not disappoint! The back up performers were superb, each one is very talented. Ramsey gave a mix of soft and quiet numbers co mingled with flat out funky hard hitting jazz, and the audience seemingly enjoyed every piece! He is a quintessential musician!

Ramsey Lewis is a legend and John Pizzarelli is a gem. Playing the beautiful music of Nat King Cole, with John's stories, made for a most enjoyable show.
