    Ramona

Theater was beautiful and all of the people working there were helpful and nice. The show was average. The actors spoke too fast and make it hard to follow the play. Much of the material was above the children's understanding, most kids were from 5-8.

Ramona Quimby...boring for both parents & children

by StephPJ on 6/3/13Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

Our daughters ages 5 and 6 have been excited about the play since we purchased the tickets in January. They have read all of the Ramona books and loved the movie that was released a few years ago. We had very high expectations for the play and I have to admit my husband and I were also looking forward to the show. The show how ever was boring all around. Ten minutes into it my 6 year old leaned over and whispered to me, "Mom, I don't really like this play it's kind of boring." I told her I felt the same and hoped it would get better but it didn't the only one who seemed to be into it was my 5 year old. I looked around the audience which was quite nearly the entire time (there were very few laughs coming from the children just a few laughs from adults who felt bad) I found parents checking their phones, several were asleep and children who looked bored out of their minds. I know I used the word bored quite a lot but I can't think of any other way to describe this play. There were opportunities to integrate good music but the writers strayed away from them. The voices used by the cast specifically for the mother who also played the teacher were incredibly annoying. Overall the transfer from book to stage seemed very poorly thought out.

    Ramona Quimby

by Gabhainn on 6/3/13Walnut Street Theatre - Philadelphia

My seven year old granddaughter enjoyed herself very much. She was so excited about going to the theater and wasn't disappointed. The length of the play was just right for her age group. Afterwards she said she thought she might like to try acting. I think she will enjoy the Ramona books more because she can picture the characters she saw in the play. Her favorite character was Beezus.

a bit over the top, but still cute

by sp1103 on 2/14/12Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

i loved the beverly cleary series when i was young, so i was so glad to take my 6 yr old to see the live Ramona show, since she has just finished the series herself. i felt the actors were way too animated, a bit clownlike, in fact. i'm not sure why they felt they needed to be so over the top, especially with the characters of Howie Kemp and Mrs. Griggs. the story would have been just fine if they toned it down a bit. i also wish the story was from ramona's perspective and not Beezus', but oh well. all in all, my daughter enjoyed herself and that was the main thing. i felt like Junie B Jones last year was a much better production.

    Cute

by buford692 on 2/14/12Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Definitely a cute play however, I took some 13 year old girls and this was definitely too young for them. I thought maybe they would find it fun since they used to read the Ramona books but it did not keep their interest. However, as an adult, I thought it was cute!
