A beautiful composition of art, music and dance, perfectly performed by the dancers. Excellent sets and choreography. A real treat for the senses and soul.
The dancing footwork combined with the jazzhot music was remarkable. That this long playing scenario could have such precise and choreographed steps to each split second of music was beyond excellent. Problem is: the cacophany of nonstop saxophone, drums and flute for over 1 hour is more than our Western ears are accustomed to bear. All unstopping without a break. It just went on and on and on. Had it been in the neighbor's garage, we would long since have called the cops. Do not get me wrong. I have great respect for Indian music. But give me Ravi Shankar in 30 minute segments , please. And add the dancers to that. This recital was not working at the level of high art. I do not like paying big bucks to be subjected to punishment.
Beautiful and graceful program. Musicians were great. Only complaint is show to short. The bells were interesting.
A wonderful performance of a unique and exciting style of dance. The Musicians were a delight. The hour long performance was described by the program as a depiction of the flow of a life, and the beautiful (and ambiguous) movements and gestures could easily have been describing that. The solo and ensemble components to the performance were all executed with an enjoyable and masterful energy.
Utterly fantastic show . . . only complaint is that it was way TOO SHORT!!! Would have been interesting to the the drummers compose a piece for the Ragamala dancers to dance to . . .
This was the best performance I've seen in a long time. Among many other great musical and theatrical performances, this was inspiring, graceful, beautiful, multidimensional; it made me excited to be human. Never miss a chance to see either of these groups again as long as you live. AND at 9 bucks a ticket (plus annoying charges) it was a steal. Mu Daiko continues to amaze me- I've attended their concerts for about 5 years. Energy, love of life, love of the intrinsic beat- see them loving what they do and they are ON! Ragamala is sooooo beautiful- poetry and mystery, precise and fluid, non stop athletic, floating, unique - a gift to dance. Don't hesitate- go again if you can.
Both of these groups are great! Their levels of skill and presence are awesome. They deserve bigger venues! I will certainly attend more of their performances in the future.
