Mindi & Marv and the whole band were great and the set was tight....jon koonce on the other hand was just ok. I know he is so over "the distractions" but for many of us he only managed to play "rosie".....no octane twilight.....come on.....really. I did see him at his reunion show a few months back and that was awesome.
We left after an hour because we were there to see Quarterflash and not a good friends band of them!
My husband and I have always loved the music of Quarter Flash, we were very disappointed that the back ground music was way to loud to hear the singers. I know that isn't always the case since we have been going to the Trail Band concerts for many years and the background music is perfect!!!
These talented musicians brought the past to the present and played new material that was as impressive as their older songs but in new ways. They are so experienced and fine tuned that throughout the show we felt emotional and physically pleasured. Yippee Quarterflash!
We saw Quarterflash in concert on New Year's Eve in Los Angeles in about 1983, and we just saw them again in Portland for NYE 2012, nearly 30 years later. They sounded as good now as they did then. They are all accomplished musicians, and they performed their songs flawlessly. They opened with Valerie, and played a sampling of their older and newer songs. The new year was greeted with a countdown, singing of Auld Lang Syne, and followed by Harden My Heart, and one encore. The Aladdin gave everyone a ticket for a free holiday drink. All in all, it was a great way to bring in the new year again. I was not familiary with the opening act John Koonce and One More Mile, but learned they have played in Oregon for a long time. They did a surprisingly good job, playing some of their own songs, and covers of a somewhat obscure collection of rock songs from the past, including songs from Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Question Mark and the Mysterians, and the Yardbirds. We enjoyed their performance too.
I wasn't real familiar with Quarter Flash but really enjoyed Mindy's performances with the Trail Band so I thought I'd see what Quarter Flash was like. What a great group. I recognized several of the songs they played.
Excellent, they sound great. Don't know why they don't tour more there is still alot of fans out here.
Quarter Flash was fabulous, fun and entertaining! They had the crowd dancing till midnight! They still had their signature sound and tight musical harmonies! They did a combo of old standards and music from their new CD, that were fantastic!
It was great to hear and see Rindy & Marv again, and they were backed by a fantastic tight band! From Seafood Mama days of old, through many of their old and recent tunes, to a great cover of "You Got Me Babe." We stood in front of the stage for an hour and a half mesmerized, bopping and smiling. It also was a trip to hear the stories of local rockers who made good, of the cheese fight with Elton John's band, and of the Japanese muzak version of "Harden My Heart." Thanks for the best New Year's Eve we've had in decades.
