Prof in Concert

A self-made rapper from Minnesota, Prof is a furious force on stage in the mold of Great Lakes microphone greats who came before him. With the introspection of Brother Ali and the off-kilter flow of Atmosphere's Slug, Prof has come a long way from his infamous "drunk shows" for college crowds at Minneapolis' Dinkeytowner Bar a decade ago. He's an upbeat hip-hop staple at festivals (including his own Prof Outdoors) and always a physical presence on stage. So much so, the rapper has undergone back and knee surgeries to patch up the body he sacrificed time and again for the sheer entertainment of his fans, yet he still refuses to let injuries alter his live persona. At 2018's Soundset Festival, Prof closed his set with the Waka Flocka Flame-featured "Apesh*t," crowd-surfing on a gigantic pink flamingo, rapping "Apesh*t! Break your neck! Break your spine!" while raining money into the elated crowd.

Prof Background

Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prof (né Jake Anderson) has positioned himself as the heir apparent to the storied Minnesota rap throne. The 34-year-old started the Stophouse Music Group label, where he released his early work, including 2007's debut ‘Project Gampo,' establishing his quasi-comedy rap alter ego, Gampo. Prof quickly built a relationship with the stalwart Rhymesayers Entertainment label, collaborating on the Welcome to Minnesota tour in 2010, before signing with Rhymesayers in 2013 and releasing his breakthrough album, ‘Liability.' With features from Strange Music boss Tech N9ne, Petey Pablo, and Waka Flocka Flame, ‘Liability' even cracked the Billboard 200. On 2018's ‘Pookie Baby,' Prof took a more personal creative leap, opening himself up with visceral singing alongside his brain-stopping rhymes. He features Ashley DuBose, The Voice Season 5 contestant and fellow Minneapolis native, on the tenderhearted "Be Around," and he can still throw it back to the Gampo days on the tongue-in-cheek "Andre The Giant."

    Best show for small venue

by Old Lady Bones on 10/21/23Knitting Factory - Spokane - Spokane

Seeing Prof live removed a bucket list item I never knew I had. The show was packed with all the hit songs, but the energy. I honestly don’t know how he did it, but he raised the energy level of the entire crowd, and it was exhilarating! I’ve never seen anyone with that kind of oozy charisma on stage, and I’ve been to a LOT of shows. Actually don’t think I ever need to go to another concert again after this; but if he comes through my town again, I’m definitely going. Prof: you’re the best ;)

Time of my life with the kids

    by WhiteyFord72 on 10/12/23Knitting Factory - Spokane - Spokane

My four kids and I couldn’t wait to see prof. I surprised them for their birthdays with the tickets. It was their first concert and we had the time of our life. It will be a memory that we all will remember. I’ve been to 150+ concerts and Prof was by far the best. Wish we were still there “do that thing, dog that thing im feeling brand new”

    I couldn't get enough!

by Pookie on 10/11/23Knitting Factory - Spokane - Spokane

He has out performed every other concert except Dave Mathews. He has energy a great vibe and his songs all have that want to have a good time feel. It's a shame no one has promoted Prof to a higher degree. Prof is at another level.

    Favorite performer best show yet!

by Tyler MF Flores on 9/25/23191 Toole - Tucson

191 Toole is a rinky dink, little venue with pillars that run through the middle of it. But Prof packed it out, and made it feel like a party. The openers were amazing I got 2 new rappers to watch out for. And the best memories of this show. Going to see Prof is now a tradition for me, and I'm beyond excited that next year he will be at a bigger venue.
