Except for a loud VERY drunk fan it was a fun afternoon.
The Beavs won a seesaw battle with the 51s, 6-4, in what was their last game at PGE Park, and what will be the last professional baseball game to be played in the City of Roses until God-knows-when. If you enjoy baseball and have ready access to a time machine, then I heartily recommend that you travel back in time to another game in the Beavers' more than 100-year history. See Luis Tiant pitch a no hitter! Watch Randy McCray crash through the center field wall! Marvel at Satchel Paige, the middle-aged boy wonder who strikes out batters half his age. Imagine Johnny Pesky as a clubhouse boy fetching cigarettes for his hometown team. Go back in time and enjoy it while you can, because, come Monday, September 6th, 2010, it's bye-bye to Portland baseball. The fix was on, and baseball just wasn't trendy or successful enough. Nope, next year, the Portland Timbers bring MLS futbol to our fair city's soggy stage in a marketing coup that matches the sport of the moment with the city of the moment. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes the team you love to watch gets run out of town on a rail.
Great Beaver's game, but sad it's the last one. I hope baseball cames back to PDX one day. Don't think I'll be in PGE Park agqain as I'm not a big soccer fan. Too bad our city leaders didn't have more backbone if finding a place for a new staduim.
This was an unforgettable, yet bitter-sweet day for me. The last Beavers game at PGE Park, a beautiful sunny afternoon, in the company of my wife and grandson (and 15,600 fans).. .. .. I don't see how it gets any better than this. Unless, of course, the Portland city leaders can dig their heads out of their collective dugout and bring the Beavers back home.
I bought these tickets for my husband and son so they could be a part of history, albeit a sad part. The weather was perfect and from the last first pitch thrown by the woman who threw the first pitch many years ago to the standing ovation, you knew you were a part of baseball history. From the raffles to the fitting end with a Beaver's win, it was a day not to be missed.
Best game in town... just sad it was the last one... :-(
Thought it was the last game of the season..turns out it was the last beavers game ever! Sucks for them. We had a great time though, I highly recommend going to this event, 5 stars. LETS GO WINTERHAWKS!!!!
For the last Beavers game @PGE Park it was great to be at. To see WIly Mo Pena hit a home run at a game and not TV was fun to see. I planned on going to this game and glad I made it.
Perfect day for a ball game. Weather was fantastic; lots of hits & Beavers won 6-2.
