About

Pianos Become the Teeth on Tour

Pianos Become the Teeth are an American post-hardcore and early screamo rock band. Currently consisting of Kyle Durfey (vocals), Mike York and Chad McDonald (guitar), Zac Sewell (bass) and David Haik (drums), Pianos Become the Teeth started out as a screamo band, but has since transitioned to a more post-rock ensemble. Following the release of their 2022 album, Drift, Pianos Become the Teeth are set to commence their fall 2022 tour across the United States, making stops in California, Arizona, Nevada, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Michigan. The raw honesty and intensity of their live performances reverberate through any venue they're at, showing the audiences their true vulnerabilities as a post-rock band. After attending a concert, one fan wrote, "You can tell they don't put something out there unless they really feel it." Pianos Become the Teeth began their musical creation with their first two screamo albums, Old Pride (2009) and The Lack Long After (2011). The band then moved from screamo to post-rock for their albums Keep You (2014) and Wait For Love (2018). Their next album, Drift (2022), is a total combination of the band's musical creation over the years, fleshing out their newer sound while staying true to their roots.

Pianos Become the Teeth Live in Concert

Forming in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2006, Pianos Become the Teeth achieved a foothold in the screamo community after their debut album Old Pride was picked up and nationally distributed by Top Shelf Records. Durfey is the only original member of the group. Their name, Pianos Become the Teeth was chosen by a former drummer. In an interview with rockfreaks.net Durfey described the meaning of the name by saying, "...if you dwell on a problem for too long, you kind of become that problem." With more than 97,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and their most popular song, "Hiding," reaching more than 2.7 million streams, Pianos Become the Teeth continue to retain a strong cult following.
