I am a big fan of Beethoven, Chopin and Mozart music. I came to Baytona Beach to hear some great combo of the evergreen compositions (Beethoven Symphony 5, Chopin Concerto 1 etc). But except Mozart, other two did not satisfy me.
One of the reasons was probably Poland Philharmonic had a small set of performers. Hence, there was a lack of prcussions. Second sound system at the Daytona Beach Peabody Auditorium was not great one. As a result, Chopin and Beethoven performances were not effective. And may conductor should think of this issue. Especially, if you are performing Beethoven Symphony 5, you need to have very high pitch of percussions. Otherwise movement 1 and 3 will not carry the effect needed (which was the case at this theatre).
The band played them well though, there was no technical mistake from their side. Even the pianist was great, his solo-piano performance was the extremely nice. Also, conductor presented two additional pieces afterwards, that was very nice!!
So, except the low percussino instruments and medium sound quality, I enjoyed the Polad Philharmonic.
