Electronic duo Phantogram combine elements of trip hop and shoegaze to create a spellbinding sonic backdrop for singer Sarah Barthel's lush vocals. At their live shows, an intricately choreographed light show entrances fans while arpeggiated guitars and sampled sounds create layers of atmosphere from which their songs emerge. The band wowed fans with their electric stage presence on their 2013 tour, and following the 2014 release of their highly anticipated sophomore album Voices, Phantogram are set for another round of kaleidoscopic performances.
Childhood friends Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel formed Phantogram in Greenwich, New York, in 2007, making their debut in 2009 with a self-titled EP. Their 2010 full-length debut Eyelid Movies put them on the critical radar, garnering attention from bloggers and leading to a somewhat surprising collaboration with Outkast's Big Boi, who worked with the pair on three tracks from his 2012 album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. With their sophomore album hitting shelves in 2014 and a planned EP with Big Boi, Phantogram are poised for their biggest year yet.
