About

PERFUME GENIUS IN CONCERT:

Chamber pop virtuoso Perfume Genius continues to push the envelope with his vulnerable yet powerful vocals, outré personal style, and intimate live performances. Whether he's accompanied by a backing band or going it solo with his keyboard, he always delivers a cathartic, unguarded live show that highlights the gravitas of his subject matter yet remains cautiously hopeful in its melodic flourishes. Fans love Perfume Genius for his grit and emotion, and they'll get plenty of both as he performs poignant renditions of favorites like "Dark Parts" and "Floating Sit" on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Seattle-based Perfume Genius, a.k.a. Mike Hadreas, began composing music in 2008 after relocating from New York to the Pacific Northwest. The demos he posted to MySpace attracted the attention of revered indie imprint Matador Records, and in 2010 the label released his debut album Learning. The release was a hit with critics, while its sober subject matter and uncluttered arrangements andhad an even bigger emotional resonance with fans. He followed up in 2012 with Put Your Back N 2 It, an ambitious effort that continued in the same vein. Critics took note -- the album was awarded Best New Music by Pitchfork, and it appeared on numerous year-end lists. With his highly anticipated third album Too Bright hitting shelves in 2014, Perfume Genius has fans eagerly awaiting his upcoming tour dates.

    Red Rocks Magic

    by F. P. on 6/6/23

Had never heard Perfume Genius but was immediately hooked when I heard his voice. I couldn’t take my eyes off the stage because he draws you in with emotion and his stage presence. Opening for a sold out Yeah Yeah Yeahs show provides an audience that was supportive and by the last song the applause was resounding. Along with the awe that Red Rocks is known for, we got the treat of seeing him perform with YYY on their opening number (no title given cause when I go to shows I want to be surprised). What a great night!

    Just love him

by Liz on 4/22/22Beacon Theatre - New York

I love him and just needed to see him live. The show was beautiful. The band was so good, and when he sings with Meg they are perfection. Meg's show before the show is lovely. I am so happy I dragged my tired old self to this show. It made me happy! I hope they have a great tour!

He has a magnetic stage presence.

by Petrus on 3/24/22The Fillmore - San Francisco

Didn't care much for the 45 minute group that preceded Perfume Genius. They were made up of musician from Perfume Genius' back-up musicians, but would have liked to know they were going to play 45 minuters before PF. Perfume Genius himself is one-of-a-kind. Occasionally I was bored but most of the time dazzled by his unique showmanship.

Amazing performance, sound mix needs adjusting

by JK on 3/24/22The Fillmore - San Francisco

I have seen many shows at the Fillmore and Perfume Genius was one of the most dazzling and moving. My concern is about the audio quality. The mix was unbalanced; it was very difficult to hear the vocals and it all became a wall of noise. What an insult to the gifted musicians.

    Great Show

by SLB on 3/24/22The Fillmore - San Francisco

The sound was a off, especially in the beginning. The instruments sounds were far louder than the vocals. Perfume Genius did not disappoint. He looks and sounds great. The Fillmore bartenders need to not talk so much and so loud during shows, especially when the performance highlights a vocal artist.

    Avant garde

    by J. B. on 10/8/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Each artist writhing through their painful pursuit of expression from a deeply haunting realm, climaxing in fury- it will make you stir.

    Orgy of sound and movement

by KC on 10/8/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Once my earplugs were in place (thank you) I was transported to a world of sensory pleasure. A story unfolded with sound and movement so intimate and frenetic. I was drawn in slowly and completely until it’s quiet, peaceful ending. Thank you Kate Wallach and the YC. Bravo

He was a sexy beast!...his opening act-not so much

by KellyKellyKelly on 3/27/15The Sinclair - Cambridge

Perfume Genius was incredible. You can tell he takes his work very seriously; the focus and attention paid to each word he sang, in every song was absolutely noticeable. His performance was beautiful and amazing to see live. Loved his fishnets-didn't really love his Betty Boop t-shirt/dress. Though I would have loved to see him dressed to the nines with a sequin ensemble, I care less about his wardrobe and more about his voice-he killed it.
