First and foremost, my daughter had fun at this show. Actually, she had the time of her life. She was hooting and yelling and cheering for all the characters on stage, dancing, singing, and just enjoying it entirely. I'm absolutely glad we went, and I would recommend the live show to Peppa Pig fans.
However, I was disappointed. The show opens with George, Danny Dog, Pedro Pony, and Susie Sheep. None of the other friends show up in the show, so Candy Cat, Rebecca Rabbit, and Zoe Zebra were cut. At all times, there were more boys than girls on the stage--which seemed so weird since the Peppa Pig show has such strong female characters.
Mummy Pig only makes a short appearance and is gone for the rest of the show. Daddy Pig is a much bigger character on the show and makes appearances throughout. He is trying to remain the record holder for the biggest puddle splash, but he has competition from Mr. Bull, who also makes multiple appearances in the show. Although the show takes place in the school a bit, Madame Gazelle never appears. When they had a smoothie stand, I thought for sure Miss Rabbit would appear, but she didn't. However, Mr. Potato did appear and had a song.
While Peppa also had a song, it was actually mostly sung by Danny Dog. He was the prominent singer who had the microphone. Which character spoke the most? GEORGE. He cried a lot and got the audience wet. He lost his dinosaur. He climbed into tree houses.
The show was fun, but it seemed like whoever wrote it tried to deliberately make it a stronger male cast. It just rubbed me the wrong way that someone felt the need to cut out so many of the girls' roles. Peppa Pig has so many wonderful characters, and it seems so deliberate to almost exclusively cut out the female characters.
Ultimately, these were the biggest characters who were cut from the show:
Candy Cat, Zoe Zebra, Rebecca Rabbit, the grandparents, Miss Rabbit, and Madame Gazelle. Mummy Pig only appears briefly in the beginning.
