About

A company of sixty performers and musicians, including stars of the New York City Opera and other international companies, performs this all-new staging of Leoncavallo's most famous and popular work in the original Italian with simultaneous translation via SuperTitles. The story, set in Southern Italy, is based on actual events. With music and libretto by the composer, Pagliacci (Clowns) is a music drama of jealousy and murder that might have been ripped from today's headlines. The musical centerpiece of Pagliacci is Canio's "Vesti la giubba," the world's most famous operatic aria, and the opera's Prologue is an audience favorite worldwide. In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Belleayre Festival Opera, the Community Chorale of the Catskills will join the company to perform great opera choruses from the past decade.

My wife, 12 year old son and myself loved it

Brought my 12 year old son to his first opera. I wasn't sure how he was going to like it ( he was very reluctant to go). He really enjoyed it! He was telling his friends how much he liked it and how great the seats were. He was just to the right of the conductor and right in front of him were the 2 violaists which is what he plays. Pagliacci had murder, humor and romance which helped to keep his interest. I'm glad we chose to take him to this opera and am thinking another will be in our future.

    An enjoyable Pagliacci

Nedda was really good. Silvio made me want to hear more from him. The other baritone was OK. I thought Canio was gonna have a heart attack. He gave it his all, but I bet his "all" has seen better days. The orchestra played well enough. In the end you always have the music & almost nothing can diminish it.
