About

Polica debuted in 2012 with their wonderfully haunting album Give You The Ghost, which was an instant synthpop success. Their drum and bass sounds have earned them international acclaim in the time since, and the band has been touring with popular acts, such as The xx. Coming up on the heels of their second album Shulamith, their recent tour features the band’s signature electrifying mix of R&B and goth pop. In contradiction to their sometimes quiet and ethereal albums, their live shows offer a jolt of power and beauty that lights up the stage. The duo has a fierce dynamic that exudes intensity, and ticket holders get the chance to witness the kinetic energy between them. Shulamith, their October 2013 album, stole the No. 1 spot on the U.S. Heatseekers Albums chart.
The band hails from Minneapolis, a northern U.S. city that seems to be a petri dish for the kind of tense and melancholy music that Polica has perfected. Both musicians in Polica were working on other projects when they met, and over time, they morphed into their current manifestation. The band sparkles in the studio, as well as in concert. Their new album Shulamith has received as much praise and attention as their first album and songs, like the Portishead-esque “Wandering Star,” keep roping in more and more fans. Polica is Polish for "policy," which lead singer Channy Leaneagh claims is the unwritten code that guides the band as they play together. Once you’ve seen them in concert, you’ll know exactly what she’s talking about.

    love this band!!

by roberto on 7/12/22Neptune Theatre - Seattle

I'm from Minneapolis so I knew Poliça's music having seen them several times there. When I found out they were going to play in Seattle I knew it was time to visit my daughter who lives there and take her to see my fav band. The concert was outstanding, my daughter and I had a fun night together and now she's definitely a fan of their wonderful music. Channy was in rare form that night, taking to center stage at times, dancing and singing like an angel. It was a perfect evening.

It was great show despite some sound difficulties. The band handled it with grace and it was a stellar set.

    Beautiful Show

by Ant LOX on 6/21/22The Foundry - Philadelphia

They played a wide range of songs from every album, really impressed to see how both drummers play off of each other. New material is also great. I had the time of my life.

    Polica was very cool!

by LauraandLance on 4/26/16Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Really an enjoyable evening! The first act, Mothxr, was very smooth and sounded great. And Polica performed just as I had hoped - awesome! Only thing was that I felt the sound at the venue was not as good as I had expected.

Channy Leaneagh is as transfixing as the band's trip-hop-inspired beats and rhythms. She has total command of her voice, embodying sensuality, vulnerability, assurance, and dreaminess. The dual drumming of Ben Ivascu and Drew Christopherson is taught, propulsive, and astonishingly syncopated. The creeping baselines give a needed depth of melody, which acts as a welcome counterpoint to Leaneagh's hazy, mellifluous vocals. A masterful performance by a band at the vanguard of alternative music who seem to be getting better and better.

whats policia's policy on a lackluster performance

by chicakim on 4/17/15House of Blues Houston - Houston

let me start off by saying that this was my first experience with this band and I was super excited about it but the singers lackluster, disinterested performance left me wanting. So maybe that's just her on stage persona? I don't want to make too much fun, because maybe she got tragic news right before the concert and just barely was able to make it on stage! barring that being the case, she performed as if she was doing all of us a favor, blazing through the songs with little crowd interaction in between and no facial expression beyond the words coming out of her mouth could create. once again, maybe that's what her fans like, but her performance was only saved by how awesomely the band played. I won't even go into the. Houston idiots in the crowd that think its ok to talk during a concert...next time I'll save my 20 bucks
