    Perfect Day

by Bindsey on 9/27/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

I went on Sunday- it was such a great day- almost all the bands I wanted to see were playing at separate times. We were able to go back and forth between the two far stages to see everyone we wanted- I think we ended up watching almost 9 full shows. The only problem I had was that Kings of Leon and Empire of the Sun were playing at the same time- so we had to leave the Kings show a little early to catch the end of Empire of the Sun.

There was not enough rest rooms or food vendors to support the crowd on Sunday.

Overall, Outside Lands 2010 was a highly enjoyable, albeit exhausting, experience. There was quite a diverse selection of bands in the line-up that would suit most people's taste. There was everything from DJs (Pretty Lights, Bassnectar and Chromeo) to an almost 60sR&B feel (Amos Lee and Mayer Hawthorne and the County) to indie (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Dawes, The Temper Trap and Freelance Whales) and indeie pop (Tokyo Police Club) to underground hip hop (People Under the Stairs) to classics (Social Distortion, Al Green and Furthur) to rock (The Strokes, Kings of Leon, and Wolfmother) to reggae (Slightly Stoopid and Nas & Damian Marley) to the more eccentric sounds (Gogol Bordello). The food was significantly better than any other music festival I'd been to.There were also some interesting booths to provide entertainment during down time between bands. The sheer size of the venue had both good and bad aspects. There was no interference between bands playing at the same time, but moving between the two stages at opposite ends of the park was time consuming and by the end of the weekend, tiring. However, Golden Gate park is gorgeous and provides a nice venue. I was also a little bit put off by the overcast skies and mist, but that's just San Francisco. Transportation to and from the park was a bit haphazard as well, especially Sunday night. In the future, I hope they will organize this better, maybe model it after the Treasure Island transportation. For an outdoor venue, the sound was surprisingly good, well mixed. Hopefully they will add back the third day next year and bring back some people from the first two years.

Lineup was better the first 2 years...

by TallBlondeGirl on 8/29/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

The show was great again, excellent idea to consolidate to 2 days. The lineup was a little lacking this year, as opposed to the previous 2 years. It was also disappointing to see that a few of the stages had been dissolved, which contributed to the mass crowds at every show (not as many options). Overall, still a fantastic experience.

I orginally thought the lineup wasn't that great but after going, my opinion changed completely. Yes the lineup was a little but random but it fit together perfectly. I think most people would agree that The Strokes had the best performance, although Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros put on a really good show. Phoenix opened for Kings of Leon and did a fantastic job, Pretty Lights was insane, and all the bands at the smaller Panhandle stage, like Dawes, were amazing. To top it all off, some of my favorite bands played little "private" shows in some of the tents at the festival. The Devil Makes Three was absolutely incredible and getting to meet them was priceless. Outside Lands is great, I reccommend it to anyone.

    Well run!

by spicylikeginger on 8/24/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

At first I was wary when I saw how many people were there. Sound was not good for Temper Trap, unfortunately. But every band I saw after that had good sound. I appreciated the large amount of port-o-potties and food vendors. All lines were short and fast. The crowd was very well behaved, and good looking! :) If the line up next year looks good, I will return!!

    What a show!!

by Rockstar027 on 8/21/10Golden Gate Park Outside Lands Festival - San Francisco

Great venue to watch a lot of great bands. Golden Gate park is such a beautiful place to watch. My only grief is with the restroom facilities....I understand you have a great number of people to deal with, and adequate number of places were available, but you figure they'd take care of them better. First time seeing Cat Power. AWESOME! Kings of Leon, The Strokes, always putting on a great show!
