Magnificent Music In a Great Outdoor Venue

    by ST. K. O. G. on 1/12/21Exploria Stadium - Orlando

The Orlando Philharmonic presented another outdoor concert at the downtown Orlando soccer arena, showcasing the craft of making live music with special guest Yuja Wang. This magnificent performance included music by Dame Ethel Smith, Johann Strauss and Johannes Brahms. While musicians were seated under a tent, the camera projected individual musician's playing of their instruments on the jumbotron. Additionally, from the entry to finding your seats, to the concessions, social distancing and cleanliness of the stadium, the whole evening was a success. Only wish is for the Orlando Phil to make this event an annual event. Bravo!

The orchestra and singers were excellent, but I do not care for this form of scenery.

    Some Enchanted Evening...

by BB14 on 5/12/14Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre - Orlando

This performance of La Traviata was staged in a Dare To Be Different mode. The orchestra was centered on the main stage and the performers played on an extension with a minimal set, sometimes as little as a settee and a chair. Act II was bifurcated to provide only one intermission. You were nonetheless transported to Paris circa 1920 by strong voices and commitment to the material. Prima Doña Elizabeth Caballero drew you in from her first note and never let you go until Violetta succumbed. Her supporting cast, particularly Steven Powell as Giorgio, was sublime. The Bob Carr is a wretched venue that will not be missed when the Dr Phillips PAC opens in November; however, this evening was a hint of what might have been had they been smarter in their 1980's remodel. Advancing the stage by just four rows made a noticeable difference in the venue's usual acoustical problems. Even with an obnoxious woman one row back determined to provide two plus hours of mindless commentary, this was an extraordinary evening with a cast two cuts above the companies that usually come to play in Orlando.

    Violin concert

by drpat1 on 4/9/14Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre - Orlando

The quality of musical presentations rivals that of New York! This concert was exceptional! Thank you to all the wonderful musicians, the conductor, and the guest violinist, Mr. Oliveira, for a pleasurable evening. Can't wait till next season.

    The Broadway Tenors

by MickeyDgirl1 on 3/25/14Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre - Orlando

The singing was spectacular. If you had never been to a broadway show this would give the feel of what you were missing. If you had been to a broadway show it made you feel as if you were at one again. I just loved every moment, every song.
