The Opera Project Columbus production of "The Merry Widow" was a bright spot in winter landscape. Lilting melodies, good voices, effective staging...and a full house which appreciated the quality production.
The show was fantastic. The venue was phenomenal & the cast & crew did an outstanding job. I hope to attend many more events at this venue!!
Very easy to follow. Characters were portrayed in a very coordinated way--their interactions, etc. Some poetic justice interpretation vs some synopses we read but well done and did not take away from the overall presentation. Very funny; not too 'slapsticky.'
Very talented group of performers. Storyline kept you guessing beautiful venue
This operetta is familiar to most of the audience through its beautiful melodies that linger in memory, its prickly but passionate romance, the breadth of comic characters who add flavor to the plot, and its charming exploitation of its Parisian setting. Opera Project Columbus, led by the incomparable Maestro Siciliani, recreated all of this beautifully. The singing was top-notch, across the board. Additionally the diction was wonderful! The acting was excellent. The costumes and sets were quite nice, and especially considering that this is not a lavishly funded company. And what a treat to hear the instrumental score performed with such verve and musicianship by the marvelous live orchestra! OPC is a blessing to the community as well as those whose talents and dedication it showcases! Columbus classical music lovers are VERY, VERY fortunate.
Delightful! Fun evening. The singing was outstanding and most of the singers could act reasonably well. Some were outstanding especially the male singers. The orchestra interlude near the end made a long second act. We understand the need for the costume change but needs to be handled better. The orchestra was very very good, however. The sets were ok. Simple and effective as a background for the action. The very reasonable cost will encourage more people to try out opera. The subtitles were also a nice touch. It was hard to understand the speaking parts. We will definitely be back in June.
The singing was terrific and the tone was fun for all ages.
Excellent singers, thoroughly enjoyed the entire production and the venue. I had ordered my tickets online and intended to use my phone for entry, but one of my guests was arriving late. Will call graciously printed out my tickets and held the one so it could be picked up by the delayed party. Very pleased that a possibly difficult situation was made easy by the CAPA representative!
For my first time at the opera this was a wonderful experience. I really enjoyed the music as well as the dancers
