    Worst musical ever!

    by D. G. on 6/5/22

I’ve seen almost 100 musicals. This was the worst one I’ve ever seen. 1/2 the audience walked out during intermission. 1 hour and 20 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. Save your money.

Reimagined as a 3 hour root canal

    by Drew on 3/1/22

It took three hours to get through this completely random and uninspired show. It really has little to do with the story Oklahoma any longer. I’m sure that if you had no expectations and we’re going to see a random play maybe you’d find some enjoyment and interest in it, but that’s not the case when you are thinking you are going to see a classic. At the end of the day, people will decide what they want to see with their money, and this one will not attract anyone to put any of it down on tickets to this.

    An Absolute Debacle

    by k. g. on 2/28/22

We saw Dan Fish's "reimagination" of Oklahoma on February 26, 2022 in Detroit. What an absolute debacle. The performers were, at best, second-rate with no emotion or energy in the production. The set (yes, only one) could have been designed by a grade schooler. In one scene, the picnic baskets were replaced by Igloo coolers Beer cans and corn cobs littered the stage. The so-called "dream sequence" should have been called the "nightmare sequence". At one point, the "dancer" scooted around the stage on her butt the way my golden retriever used to do on our living room carpet. The performer playing Ado Annie was virtually tone deaf and Curley's constant use of his guitar was merely a cover up for his lack of acting ability. The performer playing Laurie seemed to want to be anywhere besides the stage. This entire performance should be banned. It may have played well on Broadway but when only about 200 people show up to see it in the Fox Theatre on a Saturday night, it should speak volumes. Buyer Beware!! This is NOT the classic Rogers & Hammerstein version. As one New York critic noted "Not only are Rogers & Hammerstein rolling in their graves, they're pounding their fists on their gravestones.

The play was so good and so much fun. The actors and musicians were exceptional. We completely enjoyed ourselves and look so forward to the next performance by Desoto Family Theatre.

I have been to productions all over the world, and I was thoroughly impressed with this one. The actress playing Ado Annie was particularly good!

    Oklahoma! Great Show! Great Music!

by Fantastic4U on 8/2/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

Wonderful dancing numbers. Large talented cast. Beautiful voices, every bit as good as very well known singers. Tale of 1906 Oklahoma, about the cowboys and the farmers, with a classic love story woven in. Genuinely engaging show tunes. Very enjoyable. Leaves the audience humming the tunes afterward and feeling happy.

    Lewis Wilkenfeld did it Again!

by xgypsy on 7/29/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

Sunday's final performance was thrilling to see. The entire cast was burning on all cylinders with many show-stopping moments. In particular, the dance numbers and their choreography was as good as any Broadway production. The cast , which was unusualy large for a local production, provided music which was clean and well rehearsed with understandable lyrics which gave this old theater person pure joy! Every aspect of the show was top notch...sets, costumes and lighting. Not to forget the amazing orchestra which managed to sound like a musical group twice its size. Bravo to the Musical director!. Again..the caliber of dancers was superb...from the little tykes up to the beautifully danced Dream Ballet. The male dancers truly shone in this production. I was thrilled to see a near full house too. This city should recognize how lucky we are to have a quality production company like Cabrillo Players!
