The concert had its wonderful music moments

by Music maven on 12/5/23Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

Some glorious voices including a Jubilee singer and an 86–year-old man. Plaudits for this group’s youth serving mission.

Interfaith Choir Christmas Concert at Paramount

    by MizMar on 12/5/17Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

This was the very best concert and so necessary for healing an love at this time. Interracial, interfaith, intergenerational, this choir represents the hope of a better union between human beings. The music was incredible. Just to hear "Lawd, How Come Me Heah?", sung by Valeria Scott was worth the price of admission!

    Just ok

    by JAnn43 on 12/5/17Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

Was very loud, and I don’t hear well. Did not get Ave Maria turned into rap. Last year was better.

A Grand 30th Anniversary Holdiay Celebration

    by Anya27 on 12/9/15Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

The show started right on time w/a prayer and the youth choir. The whole evening was coordinated and flowed beautifully. Terrance and his team was 1st rate as always. Fun and friendly, soulful and heartfelt. It was a truly beautiful night. I was pleased to hear on e of my very favorite songs- "Total Praise". The only thing I would've changed would be monitoring the sound board. I've mixed sound for Gospel music for over 12 years. You can't set levels and leave the board. The soloist in the all black, leather outfit did not need a mic. Her vocals were too loud. She had a beautiful, strong vocal quality, but the volume was too high. I looked at people sitting in my area and everyone had their hands over their ears. The blessing can sometimes be blocked when the sound is too overbearing, Other than that one song, the show was amazing!

    Too many divas

    by greenbox on 12/8/15Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

I came to hear the Oakland Interfaith Choir. I left at the intermission, very disappointed. The soloists, the last one of whom was screeching endlessly, not singing (which was painful to my ears), took over, and the choir was only backup in each piece in the first half. There was way too much solo time compared to the choir time, which I think should be featured. It is a good choir. Why have the soloists dominate so much? Maybe this got better in the second half, but by then I had had enough! I sing in a community choir. Though it is not our usual fare, we did a gospel piece recently, in which our soloists took a small section of the whole piece for their improvised parts, but the main feature in the piece was our choir. That is what I was hoping for in this concert. Showcasing one soloist after another made the choir take a back seat. Very disappointing.

    OIGC So Disappointing

    by Srobin on 12/9/14Paramount Theatre-Oakland - Oakland

This was a horrible experience. First, the theater continued to seat people long after the 7:00 p.m. curtain while the performances were ongoing, which was very disruptive and annoying. I do not understand why late arrivals were not made to wait in the wings until a break between performances when they would be escorted to their seats without disturbing the patrons who arrived timely and were enjoying the concert. Second, the band was too loud and the sound system was awful. It sounded like the choirs were screaming, rather than singing, at points to be heard above the band. At other points, it was hard to hear the singers above the band. I like gospel and rhythm and blues music, but it was not possible to enjoy it because of the bad sound system. I had been looking forward to attending this concert for weeks. I bought my tickets at the end of September. I can't tell you how disappointed I was with this event.
