    Magnificent Mendelsohn was Magnificent!!!

by MojaveByrd on 8/26/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I love concerts at the Hollywood Bowl and this is one of the best I've ever seen. We sat in an area we never sat in before, on the side just above the first section and I was afraid sitting on the side might skew the music but the sound was wonderful. I heard three of my favorite Mendelsohn works: The Hebrides Overture, The Violin Concerto, and the Scottish Symphony #3. The solist, Roy Chen, was amazing! He is young and energetic. His virtuousity is right up there at the top of the list and I hope to see him perform again. (Especially the Brahms Concerto). Mr. Chen got the standing ovation he deserved.

    Everything and more!

by Deemama on 8/25/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Our first adventure to the Hollywood Bowl was everything we hoped it would be and more! it was so simple to use the park and ride system. Traffic was horrible but we crawled our way to the venue. We enjoyed some wine and hors d'oeuves at a lovely picnic spot and on to the concert. Our "super seats" were perfect, right in the center with views of stage and screens for up close shots. A full moon figured right into the mix. Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto was a treat. We are eager to return to the Bowl. The staff was always helpful in giving us direction. LA is so fortunate to have this facility.

McGegan and Chen do great Mednelssohn

by Sandylindy on 8/25/13Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

What a night at the Bowl! Chen up close and personal on the big screens, playing the violin with passion and skill; McGegan leading the orchestra without a baton. A warm and beautiful night as well with the almost full moon rising over us. The best outdoor music anywhere.
