NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL IN CONCERT:

Indie rock legends Neutral Milk Hotel triggered a collective jaw-drop with the April 2013 announcement of a reunion tour in late 2013/early 2014. In the 15-year gap since their last shows, lore surrounding the band has reached near-mythic proportions, earning them an ever-growing cult following and making the possibility of a reunion tour an indie rock fantasy. Only a truly impressive return to the stage could have met the soaring expectations, and that's exactly what the band has delivered on tour, performing the entirety of their two seminal studio albums to throngs of awestruck fans around the globe.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Athens, Georgia-based Neutral Milk Hotel began in the early '90s as the solo project of singer-songwriter Jeff Magnum, previously of Olivia Tremor Control. Following a few singles and an EP, Magnum made his full-length debut with 1996's On Avery Island, putting together a band for a tour supporting the album. The lineup would stick, resulting in the now-legendary group of musicians on 1998's In The Aeroplane Over the Sea, a modern classic of indie rock. The success of the album and the stresses of life on the road ultimately took its toll on Magnum, leading to the band's indefinite hiatus at the end of that year. While Magnum has performed solo since then, the band's 2013/14 reunion tour marked their first live shows together in 15 years.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"NMH lived up to the incredibly high expectations. They played all my favorite songs and encouraged the audience to participate. Jeff Mangum was both energetic and clearly humbled to play before a sold out house."

"I never thought I would see this group play together, so to hear the songs so expertly played was a really powerful experience. NMH are all about the MUSIC, not egos or fame or marketing, which makes a huge difference for music lovers like me. Their musicianship shines!"

"This concert was fantastic. After waiting many years to see this band, they live up to every expectation. The crowd was very enthusiastic and the band responded in kind."

    Everything is awesome!

by Fabicarb on 6/6/15Warner Grand Theatre - San Pedro

The most nerdy and cooperative audience you will ever share a show with. No one person recorded or took pictures. Very symphonic sound from a musical genious. Met some of the band members after the show and they were super cool and down to earth. Too bad these guys are too lazy to make new music. You'd think a decade would give you enough time to get your hipster sensibilities together.

    The Church of Neutral

by revolverlbc on 6/1/15Warner Grand Theatre - San Pedro

Incredible. I have seen them twice before and they are, of course, always awesome live. But seeing them in such a small and intimate place is a religious experience.

Whoever said the sound is bad from the balcony must have compromised hearing because it sounded great! I sat with my back against the wall and no problems. NMH has a sound no other group can match and thats what makes them special.

    Neutral Milk Hotel! SICK!

    by RoadtripSC on 5/15/15Hal & Mal's - Jackson

Amazing show!!! If you've never seen Neutral Milk Hotel live, they will not disappoint!! The song list was exactly what you would want to hear from them...your favorites, plus a few more obscure songs! A must see while you still can! As far as the venue goes, if you've never been to Hal and Mal's in Jackson, Mississippi, you are missing a true pearl. An unassuming warehouse- part restaurant/part concert hall, boasting awesome food and the coolest music venue ever! The stage is so up close and personal that you can almost reach out and touch the band. Loved that place! Check their schedule to see if your favorite band is playing there, and make the road trip!

    NMH was perfection

by JohnnyOMaestro on 5/11/15State Theatre, Kalamazoo - Kalamazoo

His voice just radiated through the whole theater. Everyone in the band plays like twelve instruments. Provided an experience that I will never forget. If you are even remotely a fan you should do whatever it takes to see them this one last time. You will not regret it.

When he was young he was the king of carrot flower

by whirledpeacer on 5/11/15State Theatre - Portland

Today he is simply a good man playing great music, and I am so sad that this was the first and only time I will get to see him in my home town. He was a truly wonderful kind of spirit to watch perform, and even after the show he was sweet as hell to the few folks that waited outside for him. I happened to watch him speak with a young fan about some rough stuff she'd overcome and he was totally, sincerely, sweet to her. Great music, great talent, I feel very lucky to have seen them all play some of my favorite songs of all time. Thanks for coming up here on this final run! I hope you find a better place out of the spotlight, Jeff, you deserve it!

    Great Neutral Milk Hotel show!

by MrBatman on 5/10/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

Band was amazing. Second time I'd seen NMH after Bonaroo last year. Definitely preferred the smaller, more intimate setting the PVConcert Hall provides. Only criticism is the problems they had with the card readers. Would've bought way more t-shirts and I didn't want to hit that atm.
