About

Finding the box in which to place singer-songwriter Neko Case has proven perplexing for the Grammy Awards poobahs, and just about everyone else. She released her acclaimed seventh solo album in 2013 -- titled The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You -- and promptly earned a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Alternative Music Album category. Her preceding set, 2009's Middle Cyclone, earned the Alexandria, Va., native a nomination in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category. With her tendency to write folk-based songs with a bit of a loping beat, she's often refereed to as an Americana or alt-country artist, but her sound fits just as comfortably in the indie-rock singer-songwriter category. Further complicating matters is Case's longtime status as a member of Canadian indie supergroup The New Pornographers, with whom she's been known to belt out power-pop tunes.

Whatever you call her style, Case is a hit with fans and critics alike thanks to her poignant songwriting and her distinctive, smoky voice, which shines in concert. It's a combination that has fans flocking to buy tickets to see her on tour, where she's put the focus on the music while eschewing trappings like costume changes and fancy set designs.

Amazing singer. Too many shooshers. No dance space.

by Jen on 4/8/24Liberty Hall - Lawrence

I’ve been a longtime fan of Neko Case but I guess I haven’t seen her play live since the crowd was a little more fun and a little less (or not at all) “shooshy”. She and her band were amazing. The sound was great too. Crowd took themselves a little too seriously. Liberty Hall probably packed too many people in there as well. Couldn’t dance if ya wanted to!

    Neko at liberty hall

    by Louwho63 on 4/8/24Liberty Hall - Lawrence

Of course Neko was amazing. I've always love Liberty Hall as a venue but this show was seemed oversold. Crowding problem really limited enjoyment of the music.

Good music; strange crowd & venue

by LD on 3/17/24The ELM - Bozeman

Hey friends, loved seeing Neko live and the music was great. But crowd was so boring and venue so staid. Felt like a church, with lots of preachy volunteers. Definitely not a cool rock concert vibe.

A red haired woman singing her heart out. Brutally honest talented, creative, smart, funny, humble, original, well liked, confident, special and strong and beautiful. Wonderful show!!!

    Love/Hate

    by KRIS10 on 6/30/23

I loved Neko Case but continue to hate Ace of Spades. This was not a sold-out show yet the SRO was way too packed with no place go.

    Awesome Experience

by TFB on 6/27/23Ace of Spades - Sacramento

The show was absolutely perfect. The sound was on point and the crowd enthusiastic. Not a bad seat in the house. Neko Case put on a soul filled show. So thankful I could go.

    Fantastic!

by dp on 2/13/23Heymann Performing Arts Center - Lafayette

This is one of, if not the, best concert I've ever been to. As a long-time fan, it was exciting to finally see her live, and she is an incredibly dynamic live performer. We had a great time.

    Great concert

by CajunUptownGirl on 2/8/23Heymann Performing Arts Center - Lafayette

Loved her opening act, Indigo Sparke. Very personable artist. Intimate setting because size of venue and open seats which we encouraged to take advantage of. I thought the intermission was a little lengthy but, worth the wait. Concert wasn't overly loud, which was nice. Neko played a good mix of her well-know songs plus songs we hadn't heard before. And the band and Neko did a 3 song Encore which was generous. It was everything we expected and more!

    Great concert, some venue suggestions

by SC on 2/6/23Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

The show and band were GREAT, but there were some venue-specific things with room for improvement. We sat on the balcony next to where the ushers were stationed, and they were fairly obtrusive. One usher did not sit still the entire concert - she got up and down (going in and out of the cordoned-off area beside me) literally every five minutes for no apparent reason and was pretty distracting. Also there were issues with the sound (feedback and poor levels for the lead guitar player) which impacted the performers.
