Great band that deserves a bigger and better venue!

I bought My Bloody Valentine when they started

by juju212 on 8/4/18Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

It’s true sometimes you can’t go back into the past - the sound was DEAFENING loud ( the clue should have been the free ear plugs in piles before you walked in ) and although I’ve been to many loud shows in my day In the past 35 years ( many a punk and metal show) the point of the loudness that night was to mask their inability to replicate the distortion they had had in studio production if not their ability to play live . It was just insanely loud, with a muffle , completely washed out vocals ( like they forgot the sound check) and monotonous with no stage presence at all in fact they said nothing except when they would have to start the song over ( due to mistake ) . 3 songs off of Loveless were unrecongnizable and not in a good way just blah . Nothing weirder than deafening loud slow distorted sounds people it’s not cool especially in a packed space . On top of that, the visual projections were so lame and pedestrian and just repetitive to the point they were annoying . The lighting of the stage was weird .. you could only focus on the drummer for some reason or the dozen guitars perched on the side ( as if they needed a dozen guitars lol - oh please ) . Glad I didn’t buy their overpriced $40 T-shirt because we bailed by song 9 or 10 ( lost count as I could only focus on how much I wanted to escape) it was awful and I’ve only left a show early once before .. EVER! So if you’re listening MBV .. I want my money back .thanks for wrecking my memories of your music . If some 20 something’s think this was a good show , it’s due to their lack of experience or fascination with nostalgia or inability to gage live music .. as a seasoned fan , I’m beyond disappointed .

    Good and Bad

by SmallStone on 8/2/18The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

<Spoilers> Good - MBV were loud and powerful - 5 minute cacophony at the end was a good touch - first time at the Fillmore: pricey but a very cool venue. Bad - MBV should have done something to engage the audience. I've never seen such a still crowd. I like pushing/dancing/etc to complement the energy of the music but this crowd stood like statues. (Yeah, yeah they're shoegazing..but if you're charging this much for a ticket, you better give us a real experience and show some intimacy.) - setlist was a bit underwhelming (no "Sometimes"?)

My Bloody Valentine will change your life.

by RayRayFidge on 8/2/18The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

Venue was clean, plenty of places to post up and watch the bands playing. My Bloody Valentine is a show not to miss if you're a fan. They remain amazing after all these years.

My bloody valentine didn't live up to my expectati

by ShadyRachel on 8/2/18The Fillmore Philadelphia presented by Cricket Wireless - Philadelphia

Been wanting to see this band for 20 years, was told it would be loud but still sound great. It was loud. But not as loud as a expected but it was really muddy sounding, all the gorgeous layers were smashed into one blob.

Messy is nice but not that nice

    by Zsa99 on 7/25/18Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I knew it would be loud, but the dynamics were lost in the volume. It was muddy and the vocals were drowned out almost completely. Especially since you really had to wear earplugs to take it. A friend said it was the Fox theater that had bad sound, but I've seen other shows there that were fine. They did a very cool jet-noise drone that went on forever and practically rattled the seats, but overall I'd say that having been my second time seeing them that I don't think I'll see them again.

    Damn near destroyed the building...

by SoapEater on 7/24/18Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

My Bloody Valentine, as always, puts on an amazing show. They were much louder when I saw them five years ago and much more visceral. The band played songs from all three albums and their 1st Creation Records EP. Just as the cliched description goes, it was like being right underneath a plane taking off while hearing a soothing lullaby. The noise section at the end was shorter, given, but no less an assault on all the senses. They made the whole building shake, and it was wonderful.

    MBV

by RedStripeDown on 7/24/18Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Sound wasn’t dialed in until near the end of the set, when they played “Soon”. They botched a few songs. I was simply bored. Ticket prices way too high. Opening band Lumerians was a nice surprise, and outperformed MBV.

    Great recording band-boring live

    by GPFR19682018 on 7/24/18Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Have been a long time MBV fan...since the 90s. They were incredibly boring live and the drummer was all over the place. Sad, since they are really great recorded. One if my all time favs.
