    First time at casino

by Kathy on 10/3/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

That was my first time at an event at Grey Eagle Casino. It was a great show but in the lobby there was way too much smoke from the casino side. We had a handicap sign and there was no parking on either side. I’m glad there is expansion in the parking lot. The show was fantastic and I am hoping to come back to other shows there.

    Great talent and show

by Auxiliary on 10/2/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

An excellent show. The singers and the band did a great job. Wonderful to have such great western Canadian talent showcased. Show moved along at a steady pace. Nice moments of levity. All in all highly recommended.

More like “Smoke of the Night”

by Jen on 10/2/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Wow!!!! The minute you step foot in the Grey Eagle it reeks of smoke everywhere, even the event area where this took place. The smoke was so thick you could cut it with a knife. What a shame. My Husband and I felt so bad for the performers. Good thing we had N95 masks with us because it saved us from walking right out. Chairs on the floor were very close together & uncomfortable to sit in. Out of all the wonderful smoke free theaters Calgary has to offer why this venue was chosen is beyond comprehension! We will NEVER attend any event at the Grey Eagle EVER again. Aside the performance was great.

Great Music, Great Singers/Musicians, Great Time

by KenCalgary on 10/2/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Music of the Night was one of the best musical acts I've attended. Of course Andrew Lloyd Webber's music always inspires, and this musical group does it full justice. The 24-song setlist covers most, if not all, of his music with some I'd not heard before. The Grey Eagle Event Centre sound systems very ably provide support for the music.

    Music Of The Nighth

by Hello Calgary on 10/2/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

The show was excellent - performances spot on! Now - for the venue: the lingering smell of cigarette smoke was off-putting. The chairs were so tightly spaced that it was impossible to be comfortable. And the parking - well I’m glad the venue sent an informational email about the state of parking because it was a nightmare. And to advise people to ride share/taxi or Uber? Really? I paid for my tickets and now pay twice as much again for a taxi? For these reasons I am unlikely to attend another event at Grey Eagle Casino.

Final event at Grey Eagle until they fix the seating

by Dave on 10/2/23Grey Eagle Event Centre - Calgary

Seats are way too narrow. The average audience member needs at least 3-4” more space to be comfortable and not have to sit half-sideways to avoid squishing up against strangers on either side. Chairs are fastened together, likely because people would otherwise move them apart. I noticed that the 4 people in the row ahead of me were spanned across 5 seats, which looked about right. Probably not comfortable on their backsides but they clearly chose that over sitting like sardines. Grey Eagle: Get bigger seats, and stop deceiving audience members. Artists: Please switch to booking venues where we can enjoy your work.

    Not a bad experience, exactly

by Naf on 4/13/23Bluma Appel Theatre - Toronto

I really enjoyed the evening because I love these songs and I was with good friends. It's also amazing to be in an audience again, I missed that so much during the pandemic. But to be honest, there wasn't anything that SPECIAL about the performance. They were pretty standard renditions of very beloved, familiar songs --although obviously the talented singers were amazing. But there was not really any connection between the pieces, nothing new or heartstopping about any of the familiar songs --in short, nothing really NEW about any of it. I basically feel I could have stayed home and found a YouTube video of Andrew Lloyd Webber songs and had the same musical experience. When I pay for a ticket and go out to the theatre, I want to be amazed and astonished and surprised by something new and unexpected. Also, I don't know if this is the place to write this but I want the theatre to know: so many people had their phones out and were recording the performance at various points. I couldn't believe it! I really think that unless we want theatre to really be impacted by this kind of behaviour, we have to think about how to discourage this. There should be more announcement about it and the ushers should be able to ask people to stop --or even escort them out-- if they start doing that. It really bothered me to see people doing it. Looking forward to my next night at the theatre.

    Misleading show advertising

by xixiifiidivbdi on 6/26/12Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

We were very disappointed w/ this show b/c the advertisement showed shows by ALW & Boublil/Schoenberg, so we were expecting showsongs from their shows. The concert was even called "Music of the Night" like we'd be hearing some songs from "PTO." Well, they only played one song from that show, none from "Cats," "Whistle Down the Wind," "Sunset Blvd," "Aspects of Love," "The Woman in White," "Joseph & the Amazing Tech Dreamcoat," or ALW's latest, "Love Never Dies." We only got 2 songs from "Evita" & "JCS" & one each from "Starlight Express" & "Song & Dance." That was it for ALW songs. There were only one or two from "Les Miz" & none from "Miss Saigon," again contrary to the advertisement. Instead of songs that started in London (or Paris, in the case of the Frenchmen's shows) we got a bunch of American radio oldies that have turned up in assorted jukebox musicals, & a medley from "Mamma Mia." The singers were great but we didn't like the song selection AT ALL, & it was NOT what was advertised. I've never complained about a show like this before but honestly, if you could get a refund for a show I'd feel like we're entitled to one b/c this one b/c this was a case of false advertising. We would not have bot tkts to this show if we'd known we were going to hear a bunch of songs from the old movie "Dirty Dancing." I guess that's a show now so they felt like it was fair game to present those songs, but to us it was just old American songs we got tired of 20 yrs ago.

Interesting interpretation of "best of London"

by SuperEm on 6/25/12Chastain Park Amphitheatre ASO - Atlanta

This was an interesting event - not least because the singers and musicians were pretty good, but mainly due to the loose application of the term "best" of London's West End. While it would be hard to say that any of the songs hadn't been performed in the West End, there was certainly a greater number of songs that had possibly been sung there, and very few that one could say were true West End greats. They started with a Chigaco medley. Yes, Chicago has certainly had a good UK run, but isn't it more American than British? By the time they finished with a Grease mega-mix, via Buddy Holly and any number of other American favorites, we were left longing for more true West End greats and less Broadway. They did include a salute to Andrew Lloyd Webber and a brief foray into Les Mis and We Will Rock You, but missed the opportunity for more true blue British-born classics. Not disappointing, and probably unsurprising as they had to tailor it to a US audience, but not quite the night of West End greats we'd had in mind.
