Murray the Magician on Tour

With his shock of messy blond hair, tinted glasses and loud ties, Murray Sawchuck — aka Murray the Magician — looks like a cross between a rock star, mad scientist and used-car salesman. And there's a little bit of all three in his act, which combines high-energy performance, geeky gaffes and audience interaction into a crowd-pleasing, family-friendly stage revue. With his trusty stagehand Lefty at his side, Murray doesn't so much perform magic tricks as set up elaborate comedic sketches where the illusions often function as the punchline. Since 2018, he's been regularly holding court at the Laugh Factory Tropicana in Las Vegas, where he wields a repertoire of tricks that include emerging onstage from a piece of plywood, pulling bowling balls out of briefcases and tearing up newspapers into small pieces only to have them magically appear intact again. Sure, you've seen magicians perform pick-a-card tricks before, but have you ever seen one find it by throwing a deck in the air and catching the card on the tip of a sword?

Murray the Magician Background

As the son of a railway worker who moonlighted as a musician, this Burnaby, British Columbia native knew from a young age that he wanted to be onstage. And upon being gifted a Siegfried and Roy magic kit at the age of seven, Murray realized what would get him there. He honed his act as a teen performing at kids' birthday parties, then was mentored by veteran magic duo Mr. Electric, who introduced him to the European circuit. But it was his 2010 appearance as a semifinalist on America's Got Talent that would transform Murray into one of the world's most in-demand magicians: in a nod to his family's roots working on railways, he wowed judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel by making a steam train instantly disappear. Since then, Murray has appeared on TV shows like Pawn Stars and Masters of Illusion, and has developed a large following on YouTube, where his videos have generated over 1 billion views.

    Good show

by SB on 1/25/24Laugh Factory Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I doubt this has anything to do with the talent, but there weren't even 20 people who attended the show. Made me kick myself for buying expensive seats, when we could have gotten general admission and sat anywhere! The Tropicana is a worn, older place, and the rest rooms were closed. Really? Drinks were expensive but not out of the realm of ordinary for a comedy club. The talent, Murray and Lefty gave it their best but felt they were disappointed, too, in the tiny crowd. More people =more laughs, but instead just a few chuckles here and there. Overall, disappointing experience. Spoke to someone else who said they went to the same show, it was sold out and "hilarious!"

    Little kids magic hour

    by Bad Magic on 8/24/23

This was easily one of the worst acts I have ever paid money to see. It was supposed to be funny but it was just rehashed Penn and Teller bits with amateur kids magic kit style entertainment. It was BRUTAL! Save your money and avoid Murray and his Teller sidekick. Go see Penn and Teller and don’t waste any of your time, money, or energy seeing Murray. JUST BRUTALLY BAD!

Most fun I have had in years

    by MrCustoms on 7/22/23

Murray is AWESOME! This is a "must see"show if you like magic. Not only is Murray a top class magician, he is also a top class comedian! This is an "all-ages"show and is an excellent place to take a date or the family. This is a rare chance to get up close to a top class performer and you can buy tickets right next to the stage (the Golden Circle). His show is definitely an improvement over magicians who take themselves too seriously. Murray does a lot of audience participation, so be prepared to be asked to join in on the tricks. But, he's really respectful so don't worry that he will try to embarrass you if you are asked to help. Also, be ready to applaud and cheer after each trick! This show isn't like a movie... you need to make noise and add your own energy to the room. During my visit, the crowd was pretty lively and Murray ended up doing several encores. Finally, I strongly advise you to grab a few drinks at the bar in the back of the club BEFORE the show starts. There is not a good opportunity to go to the bar during the show, and there is no waiter to bring you drinks. So it's better to grab extra drinks at the back bar and bring them to your table before the show gets started (you are not allowed to bring in outside drinks from the casino). One more thing, for the show I attended there was a chance to buy souvenirs in the exit hallway. Murray was also waiting in the hall to take pictures and sign autographs (you can buy his photo or books from the souvenir stand and get him to sign it). I don't know if he does this for every show.

    Very interactive

by Jay on 11/8/22Laugh Factory Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Murray was hilarious! He did a great job combining magic with comedy. My husband, son and I booked it as a last minute squeeze into our Vegas itinerary and the show didn’t disappoint. Murray interacted with the audience a lot and we were all very entertained.

Murray is great, fast moving show, funny And his entrance is really great. Add his stage assistant Lefty in and the show gets even better. Highly recommended!
