    Great Play. MUST SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Tearsha on 11/10/14The Cannon Center - Memphis

Mrs. Independent, I must say was a great show. It wasnt a boredom moment of the show. The show was filled with sad moments, exciting moments and most of all filled with laughter. The actors and actress did a very outstanding job. I hate it had to end, but I know the next show that comes to my city. I will be there. Most of all Mrs. Independent was a great play, if you have not seen it yet. Go out and see it you will not be disappointed.

    A Marvelous Train Wreck

by THEATRICALJUNKIES on 11/8/14Rivercenter Theatre - Baton Rouge

Mrs. Independent (Theatrical) The Urban Theatre Circuit better known as “The Chitlin Circuit” has truly run its course, from the days of Beauty Shop and Momma I Want To Sing to the genre favorite, Madea. The shows have always fell short to traditional theatre, most lacking substance, not to mention a beginning, middle and end. Clearly, the majority of these train wrecks are based on one dimensional characters. Wannabes and “Pimpmoters” of this genre have stolen, I mean have made a lot of money on and off the books. Season after season, regurgitating the same stories, actors and washed out singers. Well here’s another “show” presented by “Pimpmoter” Marvin Gray titled Mrs. Independent. The show’s written and directed by newbie, Priest Tyaire and produced by Marvelous Entertainment's (Marvin Webster Gray) and his new “Co-Pimpmoter” Charles West. The show features R&B throwback singer Christopher Williams, the theatrically challenged Robin Givens and Dottie Peoples, who really should stick to gospel music. The show has some light at the end of this long dark tunnel with Mr. and Mrs. Urban Theatre, Tony Grant and Trisha-Mann Grant. Unfortunately, the two don’t have enough talent to save this train wreck. The show is horrific, to put it gently. The plot, direction and set design by Paula Monet (who has worked CLOSELY with Webster for YEARS…) is a HOT MESS. Urban Theatre patrons, do yourself a favor and run as fast as you can from this non-union disaster. A local Baltimore and Washington D.C. promoter who has produced the genre’s biggest names (Tyler Perry, David Talbert and JD Lawrence) said he wouldn’t touch this show with a ten foot pole. The singing is less than mediocre, despite some of the recognizable tunes that didn’t even go wood in their glory days. The characters are one dimensional on top of a production that’s all together ridiculous. Urban “Pimpmoters” like Marvelous, have been presenting these non-union nightmares for years and they’re just getting worse each year. I watched people walk out of the theatre in fury wanting their money back. Mrs. Independent needs to get married to a man that knows how to direct and write theatrical stage offerings and then find a REAL pimp unlike Marvelous. We give it two thumbs down and two more if we had them.

    Mrs. Independent was phenomenal!

by KayBrown on 10/20/14Rivercenter Theatre - Baton Rouge

Priest Tyaire produced and starred in this play. This was my first time seeing one of his plays. He was a wonderful performer and I loved the content of the play. I did not expect the play to be one that I would love, but it broke away from away from the typical stage themes after about halfway through. The singing was AMAZING! By the end of this play my makeup was ruined from the tears I could not contain. The only negative thing I have to say about this play is that I was not impressed with Robin Givens' performance. The back bending got old quickly.

One of The Best Shows in Theatre

by KbrownStar on 7/12/14Cobb Energy Center - Atlanta

Mrs. Independent is one of the best shows I've ever seen. As a theatre lover, I have been to Broadway shows in New York, and, a number of performances at The Fox Theatre, but nothing tops this show. Priest Tyaire is a phenomenal writer, director and actor that is on the same success path as Tyler Perry. You definitely want to keep your eyes on this guy. The writing and the script truly directs you on a journey of unexpected twists and turns that make you want to laugh, cry and shout out loud. Also, the original songs and the inspirational gospel selections give glory to Jesus Christ which encourages people to want to strengthen their marriage and their relationship with God. The show leaves no stone unturned - wives are inspired to love and honor their husbands, husbands are encouraged to care for and cherish their wives, men are instructed to be good fathers and providers, marriages and couples are encouraged to do it God's way to gain happiness and good success. Every married and single individual needs to see this show. Churches and pastors should encourage their congregations to attend this show as the content is truly Godly and "safe" for the whole family. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN.

    Insulting

by Anonymous on 4/5/14Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center - Smyrna

The content and writing in this play was so bad, it was just plain insulting to the audience.
