    fun show for my price...FREE!

by Maidenman on 10/1/14Greenville - Greenville Texas

I forgot to take some time and review this show. Late August at a quaint old theater in Greenville Texas I saw this year’s version of the “Happy Together Tour” formally called Hippie Fest. It’s an oldies tour with Flow and Eddie of the Turtles serving as host and headliners along with several other acts. Each act plays 5 or 6 songs. There is an intermission. The theater is very old, in fact Elvis played there in 50’s. Greenville is small rural town about an hour north east of Dallas. I normally would night this far for a gig and certainly not this gig, but I was lucky enough to receive a free ticket. This year along with the Turtles were Mitch Ryder of the Detroit Wheels, Mark Farner from Grand Fun Railroad and Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night. There was one backing band for each of the acts and these guys could play! The Turtles have a few good songs but they talk a lot and it’s some corny humor. It’s so lame. I don’t see why anyone would find them funny. Mitch Ryder was better than I expected. Mark Farner stole the show. He was energetic , played his guitar and worked the stage. He still sounds good vocally too. Chuck Negron was passable but statuesque his entire set. All the acts jammed a brief medley at the end of the show. Last time I saw this tour Jack Bruce was the headliner and that was very cool, but this linup was better top to bottom. For the 50-75 bucks tickets were running it would have been underwhelming but for free it was pretty good. Mitch Ryder Set list: Little latin lupe lu Jenny take a ride Sock it to me, baby Too many fish in the sea Devil with a blue dress Mark Farner: The Loco-motion American Band Bad time Some kind of wonderful Closer to home Chuck Negron: Mama told me not to come Celebrate Shambala Eli’s coming One Joy to the world The Turtles: She’d rather be with me You baby It aint me babe You showed me Peaches en regalia Elenore Happy together

    Rare Earth and Mitch Ryder

by MariefromtheD on 5/20/13Macomb Music Theatre - Mt. Clemens

I enjoyed Rare Earth more than Mitch Ryder because Rare Earth still had their voice and I could understand the lyrics they were singing. Mitch Ryder's voice is shot; but I enjoyed the oldies that he played, because I recognized them whether or not I could understand what he was singing.

Tommy James plus Mitch Ryder Rocked!

    by Johndeless on 11/8/11F. M. Kirby Center - Wilkes-Barre

Mitch Ryder opened and he rocked! He played well over an hour and he did all of his hits:Jenny Take A Ride, Sock It to Me; & Devil With The Blue Dress On. He also did some new material. He stated that an old friend of his and himself used to get high together: He then did Vodoo Child - a Jemi Hendrix song that was performed excellently! For a man 67 years old, he's still got it! Tommy James was also excellent! He performed all of his hits from: Draggin' The Line to Sweet Cherry Wine (my favorite song). My only complaint was that he was a bit too loud (a little distorted) but otherwise it was a great night of Rock & Roll that alot of today's band's don't understand what is Real Rock & Roll! True fans of Rock & Roll should not miss this show!

Both bands were excellent. Tommy James was outstanding...sounding the same as he did in the 60's. The bands were excellent and very talented.

    Amazing Concert

    by Debhart on 11/7/11F. M. Kirby Center - Wilkes-Barre

Show opened with Mitch Ryder who despite his past with drugs and alcohol was phenomenal. His voice was unwaivering and he had an awsome band. He did all the old favorites plus a few new ones that were great. He also did a Hendrix number that took the house down. Tommy James was also phenomenal. His sound was even better than the early days and his voice as strong. He did all the favorites and the crowd loved him. This was our second time seeing Tommy James in the past year and we would definitely go again. Definitely worth the money!!
