About

Midwest outfit Mike Mains & the Branches is a spiritually centered indie rock band that emerged in the late 2000s. They issued a trio of albums in the 2010s, including the driving debut Home, as well as a pair of EPs. Following the release of their pensive sophomore effort, they were quiet for five years before returning with 2019's cathartic When We Were in Love. Formed in 2009 in Gainesville, Texas, the group originally consisted of guitarist Mike Mains, drummer David Denison, bassist Jacob Burkhart, and keyboardist Shannon Briggs. Burkhart left the group in 2011 and was replaced by bassist Nathan Wethy. The band signed a deal with Platinum Pop Music, which re-released Home with national distribution, and a single drawn from it, "Miracle," rose to the number three spot on the American Christian Rock chart and garnered frequent radio play. A second EP, Everything, appeared in 2013, with a second full-length, Calm Down Everything Is Fine, arriving a year later in 2014.

After a five-year absence the crew returned in 2019 with their third effort, When We Were in Love. Inspired by Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, the set was recorded in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania with Nathan Horst and included the songs "Endless Summer" and "Live Forever."

    Always amazing!

    by Emily on 2/27/24

In my many years of experiencing live music, I've had very few soul-vibrating, bring-me-to-tears, true-connection to the music, moments like I have with Mike Mains and The Branches! The music has deep meaning, the sound is like honey to my ears and the stage presence leaves you wanting more. I feel blessed to have been introduced to this incredible band and look forward to many more moments of connection through their talent. Thank you, all, for another incredible show. See you again soon!

Great show : 1st of the tour-> Atlanta

by BenL on 2/26/24Vinyl - Atlanta

The 2/23/2024 show in Vinyl @Center Stage was a terrific show! Opening acts KeepWarm and the Echolocations were prepared and sounded great. When Mike Mains & the Branches took the stage, it was high energy, excellent house sound, and an energized crowd. One nice long set was appropriate and welcomed. The talk between numbers was minimal, and encouraging to all when delivered. Thanks! The drummer Dom was SPOT ON, and drove it the whole night. Great live performance. The new guitarist was fully prepared - nice line-up! I am not a fan of Backing Tracks, but they seemed minimal. -> it doesn’t HAVE TO sound like the CD… it needs to be what we came for: LIVE!

    Ten years of fantastic music

    by Jake Sirianni on 10/15/23

I started listening to MMTB during my senior year of high school in 2014. Matt Hoopes of Relient K produced a record of theirs and I became a quick fan after seeing a video of them playing ‘Beneath Water’ at a little coffee shop in Fort Wayne, IN. Their live performances are hard to beat. You can’t go to a Mike Mains show without absorbing their out-of-this-world energy. I’ve seen them three times since 2017 and I always leave their shows feeling better than when I enter. Mike is always kind and is down to chat at the merch table after he puts his all on stage - I find that incredible. If you have the chance to catch them live, you definitely won’t regret it. Thanks Mike and Shannon for the decade of sweet tunes!

    Passion and Fire

    by Randy on 8/16/23

Mike Mains brings so much passion to the stage it’s almost unreal. He is an incredible performer and connected with the crowd in a way I’ve never seen before. I highly recommend going to see them. After the show Mike took time to visit with every fan who wanted to speak to him and had such a genuine appreciation for everyone there.

Only played a few songs, openers were bad, venue was lame. Not a good concert.
