I love Michelle Shocked and have seen her many times over the last 25 years. Saturday night in Phoenix was a disaster. In almost two hours, she didn't sing ONE song the whole way through. She talked non-stop and somehow, thought it was endearing to call her husband on the phone and integrate him into her unrehearsed act. She is an incredible artist and singer and I just don't know what has happened to her. It was sad.
I will admit I did not know much Michelle Shocked material, but from the second she walked on stage, I was captivated. She is such an amazing storyteller and combined honest real-life stories with well crafted lyrics, guitar and some piano. The paintings by her husband added another dimension and I was spellbound for the entire 2 hours. The Rhythm Room was the perfect venue for this intimate and openly soulfull person. She has a way about her that appeals to everyone. I am now a true fan.

A show where the preformer interacting with the guest. She made you feel great and glad to be there. Wonderful voice and kept the show alive. I would go again if she would come back to Nebraska. She is a dedicated and true artist. Wonderful!
Certainly to me the most dynamic voice of our time has not lost its edge. A small venue and a small crowd made for a once in a lifetime personal delivery I will never forget. Song selection and alterations of old standards made the show very fresh and enjoyable. Schalk Joubert, theSo. African native that played bass was her only accompaniment and was a show in his own right. Together they were without question the most pleasing concert I have ever attended. After the show, MS spoke to anyone that wanted to meet her. Very kind!
