    Disappointing

by Anonymous on 9/28/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Too much money to c an old movie. I assumed the orchestra would accompany the movie and i was disappointed to c it was just the movie. Pre-show was way too long. My 11 year old daughter got bored during pre-show too although she liked the sing a long. Definitely not worth the commute from O C. Would have been ok if there was orchestra. I assumed they always have live music there.

The Sound of Music sing-a-long - Magical!!

by BeCoolGoGreen on 9/24/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I invited my parents from Switzerland to this event - it was a most wonderful experience! The participation of the audience was fantastic, the sea of lights during "Edelweiss" simply magical!! We arrived around 7 pm so we wouldn't have to sit through the lengthy costume parade, yet there was still enough time to enjoy the finalists and winner. The entire event is a truly wonderful and most memorable Hollywood Bowl experience :)

    Sound of Music Sing Along

by CaliJay on 9/24/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Great energy and wonderful evening at the Bowl. Crowd was fun while singing along and shouting out funny things. Love the venue. Good sound and we could see from the very back. I would DEFINITELY shorten the preshow. Host was on too long and her voice was jarring. Too long to wait for movie. Bus didn't leave later from my spot in Chatsworth, so I had to go early and sit through it. My girls enjoyed movie, but wished it had started earlier. They got tired at the end. They should have explained the yellow bag of props so the crowd knew what to do.

    Sound of Music

by LouLo on 9/24/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I was not told it was the movie. The audience had fun laughing at the innuendo of the movie. I thought costumes were a very silly thing JUMBO TRON screens need to be bigger.

Sound of Music Sing-A-Long Happily Sings Again

by FrauFarbissina on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Is there no more joyful film than "The Sound of Music"? Try watching it at the Hollywood Bowl with 18,000 other fans, and one's joy multiplies faster than the Nazi regime. This was my second time to this event and it didn't disappoint. It's the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" for the family crowd and even those without kids who can't get enough of the Von Trapps singing their hearts out as they forge a new family in the midst of those gorgeous alps, despite the political storm that is headed their way. The pre-show costume contest set the mood for laughter and camp as it showcased dozens of "girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes," a confused Maria from "West Side Story" who arrived at the wrong sing-a-long, and the winning contestants who played the rowing Von Trapps losing their balance and falling into the lake. 18,000 goodie bags were handed out (an impressive effort) filled with some favorite things like drape material, an invitation to the Captain's Ball, and a card that read "flibbertigibbet" which audience members held up at appropriate times. There was plenty of booing for the Nazis, "woof-woof-woofing" for Rolfe, and undeserved hisses for the Baroness (she was just trying to hang on to her man, after all). The best was the meta-experience of watching the fictional Salzburg Folk Festival and, as a Bowl audience member, doing exactly what the extras were doing at the amphitheater in Salzburg -- enjoying a lovely summer's night singing "Edelweiss" along with the characters on stage/screen. Can't wait for next year when they commemorate the film's 50th Anniversary.

    Sound of Music Sing-a-Long

by Torrdando on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Watching the Sound of Music with 16,000 + other fans at the Hollywood Bowl is truly a fun and unique experience. A lot of people dress up and wear costumes from the movie - ie nun outfits, girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, etc. The hostess, actress Melissa Peterman has been hosting it for 10 years. She's really funny and makes all the people in the SOM Parade feel great about their outfits/costumes as she compliments everyone -- whether it's a so so costume or an outstanding one. She makes colorful, fun comments about the participants which is very entertaining. Everyone gets a little goodie/prop bag with various props that you can use thru out the movie -- and a lot of people bring their own props -- ie cow bells, whistles, flashlites. Next year is the 50th Anniversary of the SOM so it should be even more special.

    Such a Fun Night!

by ZuzuDances on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

As usual, the night was an incredible amount of fun. It's family friendly, joyful, musical, and entertaining... everyone just having a blast and watching and singing along. The costume parade is just as fun as the movie -- Melissa Peterman is amazing.
