    What a pleasant surprise!!!!

    by Jazzy Jill on 12/6/23

My friend gave me the tix cause she got sick at the last minute, what a pleasant surprise!! I had such a GREAT TIME!! Didn't know the names of some of the artists before I went but recognized the songs as some of my favorites. Each and every performer sounded just like the record! Brought back great memories. I actually liked the mix of band and some to tracks..less time in between acts . Melba Moore is a legend was nice to see her. Toss up on who was my fav Lillo Thomas or Jeff Redd. They both had my favorite songs- both looked and sounded great. Would definitely see this show again! and I LOVE Westbury as a theatre.. nice and intimate

    Great Show!

    by Nubi on 12/5/23

If you miss the music from the 70’s-90’s, this was the show to be at! Howard Johnson opened the show and damn if he didn’t sound just like the record! I sang along with him and remembered every word. He was dancing and getting the audience hyped! We missed Alexander ONeal not being there, but Jeff Redd stepped in and made it a party! Never one to disappoint! He sang his songs, and other classics and the crowd was really into it! The System came out and it’s like I was transported back to the 80’s; they were a whole vibe and sounded amazing. Mic and David have something special and their connection was still visible and on full display. One of my absolute favorites, Lillo Thomas, was so engaging! He sounded great, even with some technical issues with his mic; the audience was singing everything right along with him! He danced all over the stage, danced and sang to attendees right in the audience and he, Howard and Jeff even greeted a few attendees after the show for pictures. I’ve seen a few reviews stating Alexander ONeal was the headliner; that is incorrect, Melba Moore was the headliner and she did not disappoint even with some technical challenges that were out of her control. She did a few of her classics and had us all singing along. Melba still has it; style, grace and that voice! People also need to understand the difference between someone singing over a track that has a complete set of vocals vs background tracks; big difference. I’m sorry that Alexander O’Neal had a health emergency but I’m glad he is recovering. Not sure if folks know that he just came back from touring in London and that may have played a role. All and all, I think this was a great show; things happen and if you can still work around it like these artists did, then you’re a consummate professional.

    Disappointed

by Al on 11/29/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I love Melba Moore and have seen her live many times before. This show was a major disappointment. There were 5 acts - Howard Johnson, The System and Jeff Redd (replacing Alexander O’Neal who had a “medical emergency”) who came out first and performed with a track which was the first disappointment. Then Lillo Thomas came out and performed with his live band and he was amazing. Then Melba Moore the HEADLINER of the night came out and sang with tracks! Then there was trouble with the tracks and people started to leave and she sort of abruptly left the stage and the show was over - she didn’t even perform her major hit song “This Is It.” I paid top dollar for front row seats for this event and came to a “live nation” event and heard mostly recorded music. It was really a disappointment except for Lillo Thomas. We didn’t need the first 3 acts….this show should have been Lillo Thomas and Melba Moore - BOTH with the live band. It’s unacceptable to do to a live show in a theater and hear vocal performances with tracks as an accompaniment. In a nightclub maybe - not a NYCB Theater at Westbury.

    DJSDJS

by Great night on 11/29/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

The show was awesome! I would have liked a better sound, mics where not working and the sound was not crystal clear.

    Not good!

by Dexter on 11/28/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

First, unfortunately Alexander O'Neal could not be present, and Melba Moore's performance wasn't great at all. The last song she choose to sang, didn't suit a concluding end of any performance.

    It was just nice

by Nette on 11/28/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

My seat location was great, wish like all concerts venues they would think about extra leg room no one can sit comfortably and enjoy the show when twisting and turning to get in a position where your leg is either going to cramp or going numb which puts a damper on the experience. The show was nice. I was disappointed Alexander O’Neal was sick getting to see him perform was a bucket list concert of mine but I am wishing him health and speedy recovery. The sound techs seemed not to know what they were doing a lot of sound hiccups during Melba Moore’s set and it didn’t seem organized. She still has her powerful voice but the arrangement and the audio hiccups took you out of the experience. The performances by Howard Johnson, The System and Jeff Redd were great and had the crowd on their feet. Lilo Thomas was smooth and it was nice seeing him and his band perform. The young lady who I believe is Will Downing’s wife has a beautiful voice and brought a lot to each of the songs she provided supporting vocals to. If you love old school R&B this was a night to enjoy and be taken back to a simpler time.

    Technical difficulties

by Skate on 11/28/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

The show was not what I expected. There were sound issues when Melba Moore came on. She had to improvise and be a comedian with the audience until they figured it out. The person who was the engineer in front of the stage did not know his job well. We could not hear Lillo Thomas singing and he knew the microphone sound was off. Then the bass was blasting in my ear by the sound stage that horrible sound lasted throughout the show. The one who kept the audience engaged was Jeff who sang and had the audience singing. The inside of that theater needs a touch up. The air quality was dry inside. Garbage was on the floor when we found our seats. Also their is no handicapped railings or space for the mobility impaired. Westbury can do much better and I will not be going back after this experience.

A Night Of Classic R&B - Melba Moore / Lillo Thomas

by Carlos on 11/28/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I didnt know what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed this show! Melba was superb, Lillo put on a heck of a performance, Jeff Redd had everyone partying. Unfortunatley I missed the system and Howard Johnson. Overall this show was worth EVERY penny!
