Technical Issues at Matthew Sweet Show

by DeLaDave on 4/24/24Lincoln Theatre - Washington

I’m a huge Matthew Sweet fan and have seen him many times. Unfortunately, this show got off to a rocky start with bad mixing, problems with an amplifier, etc. It took at least 3 songs before it sounded like the band was playing the same song at the same time. From that point on, it was a fun show. Just wish these issues had been caught before the show started.

    Wow - Terrible Sound Mix

by Wildonva on 4/23/24Lincoln Theatre - Washington

Love Matthew Sweet's music, but the Lincoln Theater did him a real disservice with the sound mix. He made a comment about some issues with the sound and kept adjusting his guitar between songs. Sound was muddy and vocals barely discernable. I've been to tons of concerts at the Lincoln and this stood out for its poor sound. Please do better!

    Rusty

He hasn’t been touring for a while and you could tell. The band was not tight but got better as the show went on. Opener was great, unique.

    Not great

by Uncle Leo on 4/18/24The Wilbur - Boston

Not sure if it was the venue, the sound guy, or the band...but this was not a good performance.

    Incredible performance

by Jeff on 4/18/24The Wilbur - Boston

Matthew sweet was great, and I was equally impressed by his opening artist Abe Partridge which is not something I usually am impressed by. I would have preferred that he had his normal drummer with him, as he is touring with the Bangles drummer and it just isn’t strong, it was fine but needs the great fills that are on the albums.. that’s the only complaint

    Delicious Power Pop

by The Weeds on 4/10/24High Noon Saloon - Madison

Full disclosure - the High Noon Saloon in Madison, WI has a central pillar in the middle of the venue. Due to arriving late, this is where I had to stand. So....I didn't see Matthew with my eyes for most of the show...but oh my golly, I sure did hear his incredibly strong vocal and guitar delivery. The band - wow - all-stars through and through. Paul Chastain from Velvet Crush playing a Gibson SG bass and adding high harmonies, Drummer Debbi Peterson from The Bangles locked in with Paul. A smiling lead Telecaster player that looked like your high school physical education instructor, and a young-ish acoustic guitar strummer that hit every harmony note required. On Divine Intervention - towards the end of the song - they hit that multi-part harmony after Matthew sings "Does he love us?"It lit up the room with love vibes. Still feeling it a week after the show. Thanks, Matthew and band.

Very fun night and some great classics

by Stache on 4/7/24High Noon Saloon - Madison

Casual pace tuning between songs but still have the rockin’ it factor. Fun time and some neat stories shared with the crowd!

    The guy can still rock

by Madtowner on 4/7/24High Noon Saloon - Madison

Saw Matthew Sweet on April 4th in Madison, WI at The High Noon Saloon. Matthew has quite an extensive library of music to perform from, and I think he picked out a great set. Sure, I would have loved to hear "Until You Break"or "So Far", but I quickly forgot all about that when he cycled through "I Wanted To Tell You", "We're The Same"and "Time Capsule."The encore of "Girlfriend"and "Sick of Myself"was a great cap to the evening. Bravo Mr. Sweet (and band)!

    Not so good.

by Jimmy P on 4/7/24High Noon Saloon - Madison

The opening guy was horrible and sucked the energy out. He played way too long. We left after Sweets second song because we were tired. About 1/3 of the crowd already left before us, making it easy to get out of the parking lot with all the open spaces. But, Debbi Peterson was awesome and I was glad I got to see a Bangal.
