About

MARY LAMBERT IN CONCERT:

As the title of her 2014 debut album Heart On My Sleeve suggests, singer-songwriter Mary Lambert is not afraid to be vulnerable. In concert she combines passionate singing and poetic lyrics on songs about heartbreak, abuse, body image, and sexuality. Her incredible vocal range is simultaneously fierce and fragile -- one minute she'll croon in a delicate whisper and the next she'll belt out an opera aria with unbelievable ease. With a background as an award-winning spoken word poet, she also moves audiences with her talk-rhythm singing on songs like "Body Love", a confessional piece about body image that's astonishingly honest. But even though her songs are often emotionally deep, Lambert's sense of humor also shines on stage -- her audience banter is hilariously quirky, leaving ticket buyers utterly charmed.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mary Lambert grew up in Seattle and started writing songs and playing piano when she was six years old. She graduated from Cornish College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music degree in musical composition and made a name for herself as a spoken word poet. She won Seattle Poetry Slam's 2011 competition and launched her music career the next year with her debut EP Letters Don't Talk. In 2012 she co-wrote and provided vocals for fellow Seattle musicians Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' gay rights anthem "Same Love", which appeared on their debut album The Heist. The song went double platinum in the U.S. and earned Lambert two Grammy nominations, one for Song of the Year and the other for Album of the Year as a featured artist on The Heist. Her debut studio album, 2014's Heart On My Sleeve, was released by Capitol Records and debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 chart. On her first headlining tour in 2014, Lambert's emotionally charged live performances established her as an unmissable live act.

    Laughing and Crying with Mary

    by M. S. on 8/29/21

Mary is one of my top 3 favorite artists to see in person. Her shows are always incredible. First of all, her voice is absolutely breathtaking, secondly she is freakin hysterical, and finally is there anything better than a cathartic cry with your favorite artist? I’ve gotten several VIP packages and Mary is always the sweetest. I would hands down travel another 6+ hours to see her perform. Also, shame on everyone who gave Mary a lower rating for reasons other than her actual performance. Y’all are rude and heartless. Mary is a star! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

    She kept us warm

    by c. d. on 11/14/19Neptune Theatre - Seattle

I've seen Mary Lambert 3 times & she is the most genuine performer I've ever seen. So much heart & honesty, you feel like one of her friends when you're in the audience. While she shares her pain through her music, she also shares her truly hysterical sense of humor. Gorgeous voice & a great band with the lyrics of a poet. Wonderful show.

Emotional and world shattering- in the best way

    by C. on 11/14/19Neptune Theatre - Seattle

I’ve never seen such incredible vulnerability. Absolutely a beautiful experience to be let in to someone’s world and see them held by a supportive audience.

    Surprisingly super disappointing

by uzaeris on 11/11/17A and R Music Bar - Columbus

Was super pumped to see my FAVORITE artist, Mal Blum, only to have some random ass who wasn’t listed to perform go on before her and perform like 5 poems, which might be why Mal only played 5 songs. Literally 5. Left the concert during the first Mary Lambert song. Half of one of her songs was too much. Very disappointed and upset, however the venue was AMAZING. Best I’ve been to. Had the most style.

She talked to us like fiends and shared her emotions and left them on the stage. She was exactly what I hoped she would be

Mary Lambert was phenomenal! I’ve heard people talk about how great she is live and she didn’t disappoint. There were also American Sign Language interpreters there the entire time! _\m/

A beautiful performance by Mary Lambert

    by Pierre15 on 11/22/15The Foundry - Philadelphia

Mary Lambert is an amazing singer-songwriter, poet and performer, and her show was a delight. She shared devastatingly beautiful new poetry at this show and one new song, in addition to many songs from "Heart On My Sleeve". It was a wonderful venue and experience. I'll always go to see Mary but will also keep an eye out for other performances at The Fillmore.

    Mary Lambert Makes Me Emotional

by Alikat1194 on 11/19/15Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Mary Lambert is incredible. She is so honest and talented and fun. Though the vast majority of her songs are slow, introspective, and even sad, she herself is a ray of sunshine that brightens the stage. She invites audience members to sing along, tells stories between songs, and is very open about her experiences. This is my second time seeing her perform live, and she was just as amazing as she was the first time I saw her, if not better. I cannot describe in words how understood I felt at this show. Everyone at that show was respectful and friendly. It was also really cool that she had a local band and performance poetry group open for her. They were both awesome. I cannot wait to see Mary again.
