About

A Hollywood Double-Feature! Los Angeles, 1940’s. It’s double the laughs and double the intrigue as two plots unfold at once when a young New York writer is brought to Los Angeles to turn his best-selling crime novel into a screenplay. As we follow the writer’s travails in the film industry, where the “envy is so thick, you can cut it with the knife lodged in every other back,” the novel’s private-eye comes to life in the evening’s split screen plot. Featuring a dazzling, jazzy score by Cy Coleman and David Zippel and a brilliant book by Larry Gelbart

City of Angels was entertaining, but a bit confusing. We were on track for the first half, but toward the end it seemed to take on speed to get it ended .... like the writers were ready to be done! Talented people, some very good voices, but the tickets were a little expensive for my taste. Not sure I would recommend it!?

Story line was fresh in the old Film Noir style with the two timelines. Would see it again and would recommend. Very professional. Also impressed by the actors and crew setting the scenes, They were flying up and down the ramps!

Very entertaining and high quality musical based on Cole Porter's score. Basically a high energy musical detective mystery. Performers were amazing.

EXCELLENT PRODUCTION OF A VERY DIFFICULT SHOW

by KharmaJR on 6/29/15Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire - Lincolnshire

I've had the pleasure of seeing multiple events at the Marriott Lincolnshire, and I've consistently been thrilled by the theatre events put on by this venue. Great job-to the cast & crew, production team & box office, alike! I look forward to see what the future holds. Thank you for providing great theatre at a reasonable price.

    Plus Minus Production

by JAGMD on 6/27/15Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire - Lincolnshire

The men in the cast were quite good. Voices were excellent as was timing especially Stone. Stein dropped the ball a bit in Funny which should build to the end. He chose to pause and lost all his momentum. The women's voices were not up to the task especially Bobbie. This part demands a large vocal range with a very secure upper register which was lacking. Her throat tightened creating a forced sound. There was way too much excessive posturing, especially with the quartet and supporting cast which the director should have cleaned up. It is very distracting in so small a space. The final number was cluttered with too many people and too much meaningless movement that took away from the culmination of the piece. This show would have profited from toning down the extraneous noise. This is a long, long way from New York.

A unique chance to see a great musical!

by caprakid on 6/23/15Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire - Lincolnshire

If you are tired of seeing the same old summer musicals, this is the show for you. It is the Tony Award winning musical of 1993. If you like classic films, they have done a great job creating the two worlds of Hollywood of the 40s and the films they made. This cast has some of the best voices we have heard in a long time. The "in the round" setting lets the audience close to the stage and you can hear every line. Very stylish, funny and well staged. This show offers many challenges to stage which is why it is not produced very often. This group has met all the challenges and it was as smooth as silk. If you like band music from the 40s, the orchestra does a great job. Don't miss it!
