Marquette Golden Eagles Men's Basketball History

The Marquette Golden Eagles, formerly known as the Marquette Hilltoppers, the Marquette Warriors and, briefly, the Marquette Gold, have been playing men’s basketball since 1916. The current formulation of the Big East, as an NCAA Division I non-football conference, included Marquette as a charter member when it was established in 2013.

Spending most of its existence as an independent program, Marquette rose to prominence under coach Al McGuire, who led the team to its first Final Four appearance in 1974 and sole National Championship title in 1977. Marquette joined various conferences between 1989 and 2004 before landing in the Big East ahead of the 2005-06 season. Coach Shaka Smart guided the Golden Eagles to their first Big East tournament title in 2023.

More than 40 Marquette Golden Eagles have gone on to become professional basketball players, including Doc Rivers, Dwyane Wade, and Jimmy Butler. The Golden Eagles have a century-long in-state rivalry against the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers, and games against several of their "Catholic Seven" cohort are hotly anticipated every year.

More Band, less piped in music

by Drex on 3/7/23Fiserv Forum - Milwaukee

Fantastic time, the only thing that kept this rating from being 5 stars is I would like to hear more of the Marquette band and less of the other stuff.

Is this a dance club or a basketball game?

by Sam the Butcher on 2/18/23Fiserv Forum - Milwaukee

The game was excellent and the fans were very enthusiastic but the sound was consistently much too loud. It appeared that there was a DJ performing on the floor throughout the game. If you wanted to talk with your companions you had to shout. Constantly. It was very annoying. I’m sure it appealed to the students but I’m surprised the alumni tolerated it.

    High Energy…than it died

by Maximus on 2/7/23Fiserv Forum - Milwaukee

Great game and great energy to kick off the game. The atmosphere kinda died by halftime. It would’ve been good to have more organized cheers, etc.

    Great venue, poor concessions.

by Marquette fan 74 on 2/4/23Fiserv Forum - Milwaukee

Wow. For a contemporary venue the concession certainly could use work. Limited wine choices, gross inefficiencies in ordering, payment and delivery. Better improve before more events come to Fiserv

Awesome student section and great atmosphere

by Jeff on 12/6/22Fiserv Forum - Milwaukee

What makes this game so exciting is the Marquette student section and band. I am on crutches needing an aisle seat and unfortunately the seating chart didn’t show that the end seats are railed-in. Had to stand the second half. Also, what a stupid idea for the concessions. A sold out game that has no lines…you are missing a ton of sales/money!!! Nobody knows how to use the app and it took 20 minutes to get a popcorn! That is a dumb idea. There are no bad seats at Fizer. Security was very courteous to help me in elevator and get to my seat. We had an awesome time. There were ten of us who never went to concessions but opted for the “live” small concession stands that had snacks/drinks in the corners of the upper deck. What moron thought a “hands-free” approach was a good idea?

    Fiserv blues

by JJ on 11/18/21Fiserv Forum - Milwaukee

I guess the trend at big arenas is to order concessions using a phone app, but Fiserv Forum is a big mess. Other than that, ushers and other staff were very helpful and organized.
