About

For more than 32 years, political satirist Mark Russell has been entertaining Ford’s audiences with material ripped from today’s headlines. This year, Russell returns to Ford’s just as the presidential election cycle heats up. Known for skewering Democrats and Republicans alike, Russell’s unique brand of comedy earned him the Mark Twain Award for political comedy and has made him a popular favorite on PBS. Long before Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, there was Mark Russell, daring to joke and sing of the often absurd political process.

    Hasn't lost it!

Loved the show. He was as witty and entertaining as always. It was great to see Washington political pundits in the audience.

    Russell at his best

by Ellapoliticswonk on 3/2/16Birchmere - Alexandria

This man's witt, energy and zing cannot be topped. His performance has not waned a bit and he is just INCREDIBLE at 83! He had us smiling all the way and sometimes roaring with laughter.

    Mark Russell still has it

by Manilowite on 3/2/16Birchmere - Alexandria

He walked on stage saying he was 83 but if he was dyslectic he would just be 38 - - and it went on from there. No one was safe but everything was clean and fun. The interesting thing was at the end when he asked "if the election were held today".... and the audience responses. Perfect evening.

Mark Russell still at the top of his game!

by Baywacky on 10/22/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

It has been many years since I have had the opportunity to hear Mark Russell in person, though I have watched many of his comedy specials on PBS. While Ford's theater certainly has a different ambiance from the Marquis Lounge at the Shoreham, I was not disappointed. Mark Russell's performance was brilliant and he was able to incorporate the most current happenings in our crazy world of politics, comically into his routine.

About 1/3 was topical material, 2/3 old news

by Candee on 10/22/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

For 83, Mark Russell still has it. Humor, song and satire. Some of the material was topical but much was old news...very old news. Had a good time but I think the Capital Steps is funnier. Felt good to see one the first humorists who could pull off political humor without offending but still making poignant remarks. Goodness I miss Jon Stewart.

    Mark Russell At Ford's Theatre

by Anonymous on 10/22/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

Always amusing, always entertaining, Mark Russell was at his best at Ford's Theatre Monday night. I've seen Mark perform at the Shoreham Hotel and on Public Television over the years and he was never better.

Great show - great spot-on humor and wit

by Hlokksmilla on 2/25/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

Great look at current and past culture, technology and political madness - loved the way Mark pulled in the old stuff without harping on it, and poked fun at the new technology without belittling it. I would love to come see the show again!

still funny after all these years!

    by Alex202 on 2/21/15Ford's Theatre - Washington

I went with my parents - we've watched Mark Russell on PBS for years, and couldn't wait to see him perform in person. Despite the DC snow 'storm' - there was great attendance - which speaks to his draw and dedicated fans. Fantastic performance!

A national treasure offering unique ability to laugh at the absurd political process.
