    Oustanding show!!!

    by Lynn1231 on 2/20/15Genesee Theater - Waukegan

Mario Manzini never disappoints. Mario was able to give us a great show despite on and off stage distractions beyond his control. I feel these other reviews are way off base, and wonder if they were at the same show that I was at. I enjoyed every escape Mario preformed. He was able to deliver excellence under pressure. Keep going Mario you are a class act!

Mario Manzini puts on a unforgettable show!!

    by JoeVal1 on 2/20/15Egyptian Theater - DeKalb

We were very lucky to experience Mario Manzini deliver his "Tribute of Houdini" performance at the beautiful Egyptian Theater in DeKalb IL. When we heard Mr. Manzini would be preforming in DeKalb we were waiting at the box office for tickets. We purchased 5 front row tickets for our family, and anxiously awaited the month until his performance date. During that month we watched countless videos of his incredible escapes. Do you know he has preformed in Tokyo, Japan? The day of the show arrived and we were beyond thrilled. We arrived at the theater an hour prior to show time. Each child received a magic wand to help participate in the show. The show opened with his wife giving a amazing electric violin performance which got the crowd going. Once Mario came on to stage his escape acts were performed flawlessly and left the crowd stunned. Just when you thought you had seen the ultimate escape, he delivered one that was even bigger and better. During the whole performance he was lively, friendly, humorous, and interactive with the crowd. During several of the acts he brought up members from the audience to help. During one of the acts he had members of the audience tie him to a chair the best they could. I kid you not he escaped in less then 5 seconds. I think he was still talking to the crowd and he was out. It was mind blowing. I would highly recommend taking your family, friends, neighbors, lost cousins, coworkers, or anyone you know to see one of his performances. You will not be disappointed and will have a lifetime memory. I am so thankful we went, our children still talk about it and ask when they can see him again. I hope we are lucky enough to get that opportunity. Thank you Mr. Manzini! If you don't believe my review just search youtube for him. Proof is on there. He really is one in a million.

Must miss show. Unless you like train wrecks

by disasterUnfolded on 11/8/13Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Wow! I cannot even begin to state how disappointed I was in this show. The show promised magic and illusions with great escape segments and what we got was a complete disaster unfolding on stage. I believe the husband-wife Manzini duo has not prepared to even performed this act in years by evidence of how disjoint, unprofessional and confused the entire performance was. Many times the two looked at each other saying "what is next", or "um, ok this one, or the next one?" totally baffled at how ill-prepared they were. With ticket prices like this you expect a level of professionalism, smooth performance, and some demonstration of skill. None of that was provided. It really was like watching a small birthday party magic act go wrong. I don't even think the folks at Saturday Night Live could have come up with a routine which would match the total disaster and embarrassment exhibited during this show. What a complete disappointment. I am typically pretty easy going and able to cut someone some slack if something doesn't go right, but this was absolutely horrible. They really need to just quit doing this act. Maybe back in the day (~70's) it was good, but that time has long passed. I took my 8-year old son in hopes to spark a little interest in him for things magic. Instead I think he was just as embarrassed for the Manzini's as I was. Nothing performed that night would have sparked any sort of "inspiration" for anyone. Again, it was like they hadn't rehearsed this act ever. nobody knew what they were doing on stage. The props didn't function, or the right gear wasn't on stage or people walked around clueless about what was going to happen next. Even in the final escape act, before the closed the curtain you could see Mario clear as day climbing out the back of the milk jug. I mean come on! Horrible. Later after 3-minutes of pretending he might not escape in time he emerges from the stage out of breath and his pants unbuckled. What the heck? Again, none of this even begins to describe the unprofessional and unskilled performance exhibited during this show. A must miss for all ages!

Mario Manzini, A Tribute To Houdini @

by Spent on 11/5/13Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

I wish I would have done more research before I bought these tickets. I'm sure back in the day his shows where great but I think his stage days have come and gone. He did some really awesome tricks but really unorganized and not a lot of stage help. He was really ticked off in the end after his crew left him hanging on his last stunt. Too bad I think with some stage presents he could have had a great show. Time to retire. I would have rather spent the money on another show.

    Manzini it's time to retire!!!

    by Wish0925 on 11/5/13Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

I imagine in his prime Manzini was great and amazing to watch. This show however was painful to watch. Everything was an unorganized mess. The show started with his wife struggling to figure out how to get in front of the curtain to speak to the audience so they had to lift the curtain. His wife was wearing a dress that clearly didn't fit (which uIfound to be a horrible distraction all night. Manzini was sweating and breathing heavily throughout the entire show. Manzini and his wife were annoyingly over concerned that the proper music was played for each trick/illusion. The show started and based on where we were sitting and how poorly prepared everyone was the first trick we saw the girl come out from the secret compartment because they didn't fully cover the side of the box! That's a beginners error! Thankfully my son didn't see it. The show continued to be a disappointment from start to finish. I will say that Manzini is a very good and impressive escape artist I'm sure in his prime he put on great shows. This show ended as horribly as it started, actually worse. Again due to Mabzibi"s clumsiness he fell into the curtain surrounding his water tank so you knew how quuckly he got out, the voice talking as he "escaped" was prerecorded which added to the disastrous ending. Finally after too much time had passed for Manzini to be under water they opened the curtain around him and the stage hand was supposed to run and get cutters to break the locks but she ran off and never came back! Manzini then came out from the side of the stage (where we had seen him standing based on our seats again) but the prerecorded voice and what was going on didn't match so it was beyond awkward and disappointing. Someone should have been paying better attention, stopped the prerecorded voice and jumped in live. Manzini was clearly pissed off with the stage hand and how the final act went down that he refused any final words and his wife ended the show. This was hands down THE WORST magic show I have ever seen!!! Not worth the time or money spent.

    This show was a joke.

by RacerKev on 11/4/13Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Mario is not ready for a kids birthday party let alone a stage event. The only thing trying to escape from this show was the audience. His "grand finale" was a water escape.where he submerged himself in a water filled metal container with padlocks on the lid. The buildup indicated he'd have to hold his breath for over 3 minutes to avoided certain death. Apparently he can't hold his breath for even 30 seconds as his head popped out of the trick lid before they were able to wheel the prop behind a curtain.

    Oh boy

    by Lostman223 on 11/4/13Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

I'm going to take all the blame for my experience here. I should have looked up this act and done a little research before I bought the tickets. Overall, I bought 3 tickets (2 on one purchase and one later for my wife). I spent $150 total to see an act that put very little effort into his show. The music was "Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk". Circa 1977. It was funny at first until we realized that his act was also circa 1977. The props, outfit, everything, 1977. If that wasn't bad enough, they were unprepared. Assistants didn't get proper direction and didn't know what they were doing, props didn't seem to work and many of the tricks were aimed at 2 year olds. The biggest disappointment was his closer. The milk jug escape. He climbs into this giant steel milk jug filled with water. I was ready to be amazed. Once they locked the top on, they pushed him into a curtain area so you can't actually see him escape. What stops anyone from just going behind the curtain and unlocking him? You can't see him anyway. What actually happened is that the locks that hold the top on are trick locks. I know this because he was already halfway out as they were closing the curtain. I don't think many people saw it but my wife and I did. In the end, it was more funny (and sad) then mesmerizing. David Copperfield he is not.
