Great Performances but Not Sound System
by LunaBrilla on 12/7/23Lila Cockrell Theatre - San AntonioThis was the first time experiencing Mariachi Extravaganza. The talent was amazing as was Nuevo Tecalitlan. The only part which was frustrating was sitting on the first balcony with all of the students who were loud and noisy which did not allow for spectators to enjoy the show. Also, if you weren't sitting on the edge of your seat, you couldn't see the stage very well. The sound was not loud enough at all for balcony seats. It was too low and lead to frustration. I found lady luck on my side as I ran into a friend who had floor seats and extra tickets so I got to sit on the floor which I could immediately tell the huge difference in surroundings and sound. There was such a big difference. It was unfortunate though because you pay so much for the tickets and not get the experience you deserve. Yes, you are dealing with Mariachi Instruments and it is different when you play into mics versus having an instrument and plugging into an amp. But it would have been good to have the person that runs sound to go to each level to make sure the sound is where it needs to be. Every musician deserves to be heard at their best and the Sound Engineers have that power in their hands.
