My husband and I really enjoyed the show. I personally would have loved for it to be a little bit longer.

A Close Up Experience with MCA

by Evie on 9/26/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Maria Conchita gave her audience of lifelong devoted fans her most intimate performance ever. She sang her greatest hits with her audience that would often overtake the moment and sing her songs back to her. Her vocals sounded more powerful than ever. You are reminded that she had the singing chops to replace Chita Rivera after Vanessa Williams in Kiss of The Spider Woman on Broadway. She was intimate about her stories of starting as an actress, model, and singer. In an Actor's Studio format with former Menudo member Daniel Rene as the moderator, she talked about her ascent into Hollywood, Venezuela, love affairs, her long batter with bulimia, and her animal foundation, where she champions the care and safety of animals. There were images up on the screen from her collection of photographs spanning over a fifty-year career. The show was called Shameless (Sin Verguenza). It was bilingual, as is her career as the original cross-over Latin American Actress. Of her many crowns, that is her greatest as she broke down doors in Hollywood for Latina actresses. She made it so you did not have to apologize for your name but to wear it proudly. No shame in that.

    Needs a lot of work.

by HankDisco on 9/26/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

    1. She was terrific. 2. The show was too short. 3. The interviewer was annoying, disrupting the flow of the program. And I didn't come to hear him attempt to sing and joke. 4. More singing, less talk. 5. Find better outfits.

    A work in progress

by tomg on 9/26/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

The show would have been better sans the interviewer (host). He added nothing to the show and did not engage as seasoned host would, on a one on one interview. Other than his adoration for Maria Conchita Alonso, he failed to make sure she finished the story she was telling. The stories would be better served scripted, then adlib along the way. She did not stay on track and It felt as if I missed something in the story. When Maria spoke in Spanish it would have been wise if she and the host would have carried on a dialogue in both English & Spanish as so no one in the audience felt left out. (aka "Que Pasa USA"TV Show) It felt rush and he made it so by reminding her as well as the audience that the show had to end at a certain time or the lights will be turned off. What?! He might as well have said the show was on a tight budget. I enjoyed her singing and the songs she chose to sing. I really did not come to hear banter. (Maybe just a little banter), But I came to hear her stories in this type of theatrical setting, but also wanted to gain a better understanding of who she is. Also the pictures on the screen had no rhyme or reason for being shown other than maybe as wall paper and actors she meet in her career. The Show needs work.

    Very interactive, funny, amazing music.

by Alejandro on 9/26/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

From the moment it started, it felt very welcoming. The host Daniel Renè was amazing and amazing singer as well. Maria Conchita was super authentic and hilarious. They both made us feel at home. The chemistry they both had on stage was amazing. It was completely not what I was expecting, from the audience interacting with her to the music she played, and just hearing the amazing life that she is living, it overall just blew me away. I highly suggest anybody to come see it.

    Only for Spanish Speakers

    by Mr. B on 9/24/23

First - Maria Conchita looked and sounded great! But, her and her interviewer only spoke Spanish mostly with a few English phrases thrown in. So, be aware you should only GO if you understand Spanish.
