About

Best known for producing innovative Christmas music albums, Mannheim Steamroller (the musical moniker for classically trained composer Chip Davis) has become one of the world's most influential and beloved instrumental acts. Of Mannheim Steamrollers' 36 million album sales, over 20 million of those sold have been Christmas albums--making Davis' music a holiday staple in many households worldwide. Davis started composing in a style he called "18th Century classical rock" in the mid '70s, recording the album Fresh Aire in 1975. The style--classical music played with electric bass and synthesizers--proved a little too novel for the mainstream market, so Davis created his own music label, American Gramaphone, and distributed his album to audio showrooms rather than record stores. His music became an instant hit with audiophiles (who frequented such showrooms) worldwide. Mainstream success finally came in the form of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, Davis' first holiday album, which surprised the music industry by selling over 5 million copies. This groundbreaking hybrid sound of classical rock would ultimately be the precursor to the phenomenally successful new age music movement.

    Mannheim Steamroller

by Al on 12/24/23Alliant Energy PowerHouse - Cedar Rapids

Ehh..the show was ok. Definitely not as good as I was hoping it would be for the price of the tickets. Then you had to pay $20 for parking and then another $10-20 for any snacks. The arena was dirty and had popcorn and trash on the floor in the hallways. One cashier at the concession stand for a long line of people. If the show was better then maybe it would be worth it for a good night out. I personally wont be seeing this show again.

    Great Venue!

by KES on 12/23/23Alliant Energy PowerHouse - Cedar Rapids

Venue was great, convenient and easy to get to. Ticketmaster - Really disappointed we were not able to print out tickets. Digital was the only option and when there is no internet at the venue,, we were unable to pull up our tickets. NOT HAPPY! Mannheim Steamroller - we love the songs but the musicians have definitely lost touch with the "feel"of the music. The original Mannheim Steamroller created an emotion with the music. The group we saw this time was just there to pound out the tunes. Very harsh, not Christmasy. Very loud as well. Seems like the percussion section overpowered the entire band. Won't be including this group in our Christmas selection of events,

    Small event in big venue

by Babs on 12/23/23Alliant Energy PowerHouse - Cedar Rapids

Mannheim Steamroller is a cherished classic! They were incredible, as always. So much going on to produce the sound. However, they sound so much better in a smaller setting. Won’t go back to Alliant Energy Powerhouse for a concert.

    Old, needs update

by Brook on 12/23/23Alliant Energy PowerHouse - Cedar Rapids

The Mannheim Steamroller show was just okay. The visual effects with the screens need updated big time. It was blurry and looked like a show out of 1986. We were not impressed and ended up leaving the show early.

    Disappointed

by JLM on 12/23/23Alliant Energy PowerHouse - Cedar Rapids

I have loved Mannheim Steamroller since I was a child and was so excited to finally see them in person. But I was so disappointed!! Not a full orchestra and I swear a majority of it was pre-recorded!!!! Light show was mediocre at best.

    Awesome concert

by Grandma B on 12/23/23Alliant Energy PowerHouse - Cedar Rapids

The venue was easy to get too, no issues finding a place to park. The workers I interacted with were friendly. I thought we had great seats until the concert started. The guy working the floor by the control station stood up the entire concert right in front of me. I get that he was probably assigned there but he could have grabbed a chair to sit down. Totally enjoyed the music.

    Thhe show was as expected.

by Bob on 11/30/23North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North Charleston

good seats way back, close to the aisle. North Charleston lower seats are too long between exit rows. The show itself was as I expected my companion loved it .
